“Rajiv Bhatia se Akshay Kumar ka safar!”
Our very own Khiladi, Akshay Kumar, has finally spilled the beans on why he ditched the name Rajiv Bhatia for Akshay Kumar. Spoiler alert: It wasn’t because of some pandit ji’s divine intervention! 😲
“It was a great name but…”
So, here’s the scoop. Akshay made his Bollywood debut in 1987 with Mahesh Bhatt’s film Aaj. No, he wasn’t the hero; that honor went to Kumar Gaurav. But, it was during this film that Akshay had his eureka moment! In a recent interview, Akshay revealed, “Do you know what was Kumar Gaurav’s name in the film? Akshay. That’s how I got my name. Not many people know this. So, my real name is Rajiv, and during the shoot, I just casually asked what is the name of the hero in the film, they said Akshay, I told them, I want to keep my name as Akshay!”
Imagine the hilarity! Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister back then, and even Akshay’s dad was like, “Beta, kya ho gaya tujhe? Rajiv is a great name!” But nahin, Akshay was adamant. He was like, “Hero ka naam Akshay hai, toh mera bhi wahi hoga!” 😂
