Picture this, doston! The melodious Alka Yagnik and the maestro AR Rahman—two legendary names in Bollywood’s music universe. But once upon a time, Alka Ji gave AR Rahman the cold shoulder! Kya, you ask? Let me spill the chai!
Alka Yagnik’s enchanting voice has blessed us time and again, and AR Rahman, well, he’s the music magician whose tunes make our hearts skip a beat. Their collaboration for "Pal Bhar Theher Jaao" in Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha was nothing short of a musical symphony, wasn’t it? 🎶
But hold your horses, because here’s where it gets interesting! There was a time when AR Rahman, the young gun, approached Alka Ji for a little project called Roja. And guess what? She flat-out refused! 🤯 Why? Well, she was clueless about Rahman’s genius at that time. Yep, sach-much!
In a candid chat with Radio Nasha, Alka Ji confessed how she and Kumar Sanu were asked to lend their voices for Roja’s entire album. However, they both were like, "AR Rahman? Kaun hai ye naya banda?" They decided to pass on the opportunity, unaware that Rahman was about to become the next big thing in music!
Reflecting on that time, Alka Ji shared, "AR Rahman was an unfamiliar name back then, especially in Bombay. I was busy with my regular composers, and my schedule was tighter than my jeans after Diwali! Plus, I didn’t want to ditch my Bombay buddies. Honestly, I had no clue about Rahman’s caliber."
To double-check, she even rang up Kumar Sanu, who was quick to say, “Bhagwan jaane kaun hai ye composer. Na naam suna, na gaane!” And just like that, they both gave it a miss!
Oh, hindsight! Roja turned out to be a sensation, with its songs still being our jam today! Alka Ji later admitted feeling sheepish when she sang for Rahman after the fact, and he even poked fun at her for the earlier brush-off. But as they say, "Daane daane pe likha hai khaane wale ka naam!"
Kiran’s Gyan: Bollywood mein, never say never! Aaj ka newcomer kal ka superstar ban sakta hai. So next time, think twice before saying no—who knows, you might just miss out on a blockbuster! 😉
