Amjad Khan’s First Day Jitters

So, picture this: Amjad Khan lands in Bangalore, set ke liye ready. Lekin, bhai sahab, he’s shaking like a leaf. Gabbar Singh, who? Amjad was so nervous that he couldn’t nail his first dialogue, "Kitne Aadmi The." Can you imagine? The guy who terrorized half of Bollywood couldn’t get one line right! 🤦‍♀️

Anupama Chopra’s book, Sholay, The Making of a Classic, spills all the beans. Ramesh Sippy, the director, was trying to help Amjad get into character. They were at it for two whole days! Dono ke dono pareshan!

Gabbar Singh Ne Rona Shuru Kiya!

Aur phir kya hua? After about 40 takes, Ramesh Sippy and cameraman Dwarka Divecha ne bola, "Bhai, ek thoda break le le." Divecha even told Amjad to keep his costume on and just sit around the sets. "Tu apne aap ko season kar de," he said. Poor Amjad was so frustrated that he actually cried that night. Yes, Gabbar Singh rona shuru kar diya! 😢

Salim-Javed to the Rescue?

Rumors started flying that Amjad might get replaced. Salim Khan, who had pitched Amjad for the role, went to him and said, "I can’t promise you anything, but there is a role in a big film. I’ll take you to the director. Agar aap ko yeh role mil jaaye, aapki koshish se ya aapki kismat se." Salim-Javed, the writer duo, weren’t taking any chances. “If you aren’t satisfied with Amjad, change him,” they said. Writers bhi dar gaye the, yaar!

Amjad vs Salim-Javed: The Fallout

This misunderstanding got so out of hand that Amjad never collaborated with Salim-Javed ever again! At Sholay’s premiere, things got so heated between them that Amitabh Bachchan had to step in and separate a drunk Salim Khan and an angry Amjad Khan. Salim Khan apologized the next day, but the damage was done. They never worked together again! Talk about drama, huh?
