Anurag Kashyap Spills the Beans on Ranbir Kapoor’s Role in Animal: A “Problematic” Character Played Without Any PC Filters

Hey there, Bollywood buffs! It’s your favorite insider, Bollywood Newshound Nisha, back with another spicy scoop from the glitzy world of Hindi cinema. Buckle up, because this one’s as twisted as a Bollywood plot!

New Delhi: Remember when Anurag Kashyap took to Instagram to defend Sandeep Reddy Vanga, calling him the “most misunderstood, judged, and reviled” director? Oh, the drama! Well, Mr. Kashyap is back at it, supporting his pal in yet another eyebrow-raising interview with Janice Sequeira.

According to Anurag, Vanga’s latest flick Animal ruffled feathers because Ranbir Kapoor, everyone’s darling, played an unapologetically problematic character. Anurag quipped, “Why did the film become controversial? Because the nation’s sweetheart, Ranbir Kapoor, threw all caution to the wind and played his part with full-throttle conviction. No political correctness here, folks!” For those living under a rock, Animal faced backlash for its violent and "misogynistic" undertones.

Anurag didn’t stop there. He compared his own "cancellation" experiences with Sandeep’s. “I’ve been cancelled more times than I can count—Dev D, Paanch, Black Friday, Gangs Of Wasseypur. It’s a piece of cake for people to cancel someone. How about a nice chat instead of a witch hunt? Just saying.” Need proof? Here’s the Instagram post Anurag was harping about:

In the same chat, Anurag couldn’t help but gush over Vanga’s stubbornness. “What I loved about Animal is that a headstrong filmmaker made a 3-hour-and-25-minute adult film and got it released in theaters. Reminded me of my Bombay Velvet days. Tried to fight for it, but alas, had to mutilate my own work. Being ziddi (stubborn) as a filmmaker isn’t always bad. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t endorse everything in Animal. If I have issues, I’ll take them up with the filmmaker directly.”

For those who missed it, Animal hit the screens last December, featuring Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri in significant roles.

Nisha’s Nutshell: Bollywood is like a spicy curry—some love it, some hate it, but you can’t ignore it. And remember, in the world of films, being ziddi might just be the secret ingredient to success. Or at least, a lot of drama. 🎬✨
