Tragic news from the picturesque Gulmarg in Jammu-Kashmir. 🏞️ A century-old, iconic Shiva temple, a favorite spot of our film stars, was engulfed in flames. 🔥🔥 This temple was where the legendary Rajesh Khanna-Mumtaz classic song ‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’ was filmed. 🎶💔
According to the media, the fire broke out on Wednesday morning. The locals, with the help of the police, managed to control the fire, but not before the temple was completely consumed. 🚒🔥
The temple priest, Purushottam Sharma, rumored the fire was caused by a short circuit. 🙄 (As if he was there with a fire investigator’s hat on!). The police, however, are investigating the cause. 🧐
Gulam Mohammad Sheikh, a local Muslim man, had been the caretaker of this temple for 23 years after the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 90s. He was affectionately known as Pandit Ji and received a monthly salary from the Dharmarth Trust for his services. 🕌🕍
Not just ‘Aap Ki Kasam’, this temple was also the shooting location for iconic films like ‘Roti’, ‘Andaz’, and ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’. 🎥
Former Chief Minister of Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, expressed his regret over the incident in a social media post. He hoped for the quick reconstruction of the temple, considering its religious and touristic significance. 🙏
This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, was built in 1915 by the Queen Mohini Bai Sisodia, the wife of the last Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh. Hence, it is also known as Mohineshwar Shivalaya and Rani Temple. 🕉️
