Bollywood Stars Want the Whole Universe on a Platter

Arre yaar, Bollywood ka drama kabhi khatam nahi hota! And guess who’s back with another tantalizing tidbit? Your very own Khabree Kiran! Today, let’s dive into the world of moolah, stars, and all that jazz with none other than Karan Johar.

Karan Johar’s Take on Bollywood’s Rising Costs! 💸

So, KJo has thrown some serious shade on the current state of Bollywood finances. Picture this: actors demanding the sun, moon, and earth (not literally, but you get the drift), while the box office returns barely scrape the surface. Matlab, kuch bhi! 🤷‍♀️

In a recent chat, Karan Johar, our very own Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director, had a lot to say. He pointed out, "Firstly, the audiences’ tastes have become very definitive. They want a certain kind of cinema. And if you (as a maker) want to do a certain number, then your film has to perform at A, B, and C centres. Multiplexes alone will not suffice.”

Karan Johar’s Insight on Filmmaking Costs

KJo, in his conversation with Faye D’Souza, didn’t mince words: "Simultaneously, the cost of filmmaking has increased. There has been inflation. There are about ten viable actors in Hindi cinema, and they are all asking for the sun, moon, and earth. So, you pay them; then you pay for the film, and then the marketing expenditure comes. And then your film doesn’t do the numbers. Those movie stars asking for Rs 35 crore are opening to Rs 3.5 crore. How’s that math working? How do you manage all these? Yet, you must keep making movies and creating content because you must also feed your organization. So there’s a lot of drama, and the syntax of our cinema has not found its feet.”

Bhai, sahi pakde hain! The man is talking sense here – the math just doesn’t add up!

Karan also noted that every decade, Hindi cinema has had its own distinct style. But now? It’s like everyone’s playing follow the leader. One action movie does well, and suddenly everyone’s on the action bandwagon. Love story hits? Sab log piche lag jaate hain! Talk about herd mentality! 🙄

Pure Indian Joy vs Urban Themes

The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director made another solid point. He talked about the audience that craves good old desi cinema – the kind that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy without the critic’s microscope. He stressed the need to cater to Tier 2 cities and smaller towns. Urban-themed movies? Sure, go ahead! But yaar, make sure they’re cost-effective and have a wider appeal. Samjhe?

Kiran’s Gyan:

Bollywood ka ye hai funda: Sab kuch dikhta hai sundar, but andar se hai thoda jhundar. Stars ko chahiye sab kuch, par box office pe kuch bhi nahi. KJo ne jo bola, sahi bola! Time to get real, Bollywood!
