Bollywood’s “All We Imagine As Light” Bags BAFTA Nod for Best Foreign Film 2025, But Payal Kapadia Stays Off the Director’s List

Doston, hold onto your popcorn because Bollywood is buzzing with some masaledaar news today! Yours truly, Khabree Kiran, is here to spill all the chai on the latest from the glamorous world of Hindi cinema. 🎬✨

BAFTA Buzz: Payal Kapadia’s Triumph and Tribulations

So, picture this: Our very own Payal Kapadia has once again put India on the international map. Her film, All We Imagine As Light, has bagged a nomination in the Best Film Not in the English Language category at the prestigious EE BAFTA Film Awards. But, here’s the twist – she’s not in the running for Best Director. Kya yaar, zindagi mein drama toh zaroori hai! 😅

The nominations were unveiled by the charming duo, Mia McKenna-Bruce and Will Sharpe. And while the film shone bright in one category, it missed the chance to dazzle in others, specifically Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Seems like the BAFTA panel decided to keep everyone hanging in suspense! 😜

A Look Back at Golden Globes

Rewind a bit—Payal was also in the limelight at the Golden Globes, nominated for Best Director. But alas, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist took home the trophy. And while All We Imagine As Light was also vying for Best Film Not in the English Language, it was Emilia Perez who stole the show. Kya karein, dil hai ki maanta nahi! 💔

About the Film: All We Imagine As Light

Now, if you haven’t heard about this film, kahaan the aap? It’s a heartwarming tale of two Malayali nurses, Prabha and Anu, navigating life’s unexpected twists in the bustling city of Mumbai. With stellar performances from Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon, this film is a must-watch. It even kicked off its award journey with a Grand Prix win at the Cannes Film Festival. If you haven’t caught it yet, it’s streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. Don’t say I didn’t tell you! 😉
