Incoming Supernatural Fun: Munjya Spooks its Way into Cinemas

Today we welcome a new member to the Maddock Films’ spooky family, Munjya. This little horror-comedy gem hit theatres today, June 7, and has already sent shivers down the spines of critics and audiences, all while making them giggle! 🎃👻

Our dear director, Aditya Sarpotdar, opened up about the inspiration behind Munjya, and the looming shadow of Maddock’s previous horror-comedy blockbusters.

Stree and Bhediya: The Ghosts that Haunt Munjya

When asked if films like Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya influenced his decision to direct Munjya, Sarpotdar readily agreed. He gushed about the pioneering nature of Stree, stating, "Stree and Bhediya have set the bar for what horror comedies in India should be. After their success, everyone wants a piece of that spooky pie!"

Sarpotdar recognized Stree’s trend-setting impact and its status as a gold standard within the genre. He explained, "Stree was a game-changer. Anything Maddock attempts now, Stree is the benchmark we’re all trying to reach."

The Pressure of Delivering Ghostly Laughter

Following Stree’s success isn’t just about matching its box office numbers, but also about meeting the high audience expectations it set. Sarpotdar feels the weight of this responsibility, saying, "When we’re creating Munjya, which is in the same genre, we have to meet, or even exceed, the expectations set by Stree."

Munjya’s creative vision aimed to recreate the unique experience Stree provided to its audience. Sarpotdar elaborated, "When we bring a Munjya, we know that the genre is the same. We aim to recreate the same experience Stree delivered when it hit the screens."

Surprise Cameos!

As a cherry on the top, Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, the leads from Stree and Bhediya respectively, even pop up in Munjya! The film also introduces newcomers Sharvari Wagh and Abhay Varma, alongside seasoned actors Mona Singh and Sathyaraj.

That’s all for today, folks!
