Christopher Nolan Reportedly Miffed Over Ghajini Director Snubbing Him for Memento Inspiration: “Yeah… Zilch, Nada, Nothing!”

Arey bhai log, Khabree Kiran here! Bringing you the latest gupshup from the filmi duniya, with my own tadka of wit and sarcasm! Ready for some spicy Bollywood scoop? Let’s dive in!

Christopher Nolan, the cinematic genius whose brain works like a Rubik’s Cube on steroids, once had his knickers in a twist over the desi remake of his iconic film ‘Memento’. Yep, I’m talking about ‘Ghajini’, the Aamir Khan blockbuster that was basically Nolan’s brainchild with a Bollywood masala mix. Aur pata hai kya? Nolan was reportedly miffed because he got zilch credit for it. Kya baat hai!

So, here’s the lowdown. ‘Ghajini’, directed by AR Murugadoss, hit the screens in 2008, starring our very own Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan. The film was a roaring success, becoming the first Bollywood flick to break the 100-crore barrier at the domestic box office. Wah bhai wah! Meanwhile, Nolan’s ‘Memento’, which released in 2000, was a masterpiece that bagged him his first Oscar nomination. Talk about setting the bar high, right?

Now, picture this. Anil Kapoor, our very own jhakaas hero, bumps into Nolan and they get chatting. Anil recounts, "I was talking to Christopher Nolan. And he said I have heard that one of my films has been copied. I said Ghajini. He was very upset about it. I told Aamir also. I told (Nolan) the film had just been released over there and is a big success. (He then said) Yeah, no money, no credit, no nothing." Ouch! That must’ve stung.

Nolan, who seems to have a soft spot for Indian cinema, mentioned, “I usually get to see Indian films on planes, I very much enjoy them. As far as history of films, I recently got to see ‘Pather Panchali’ for the first time and it’s one of the best films I’ve seen, a remarkable piece of work from 1955, it’s been lovingly restored.” Well, at least he’s got some appreciation for our films!

The man further added, “The negative was destroyed in a fire, and they were able to painstakingly over time bring it back, and someone like me can for the first time watch the film, and enjoy Indian cinema.” Ah, Nolan ji, if only restoring credits was as easy as restoring film negatives, na?

Fast forward to today, Nolan continues to dazzle with his stellar movies. His latest, ‘Oppenheimer’, featuring Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr., has swept all the awards this season, including the Oscars. Kya zabardast performance di hai, boss!

Kiran’s Gyan: In Bollywood, credit lene ka naatak is as common as item numbers in our films. Moral of the story? If you’re gonna borrow ideas, at least send a thank you card, yaar! 😜
