Sudha Kongara and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’: A Risky Remake or a Masterstroke?
Yaadon ki baraat anyone? Sudha Kongara’s 2020 Tamil blockbuster, Soorarai Pottru, has been given a Bollywood makeover with Sarfira, starring none other than Mr. Khiladi himself, Akshay Kumar. Released on July 12, this movie has already stirred up quite the storm. But wait, there’s more! Our very own Dulquer Salmaan has some thoughts and he’s not holding back! 😉
Dulquer Salmaan Reviews Sarfira
Picture this: Dulquer Salmaan, sitting in his cozy den, chai ki pyali in hand, pens down his thoughts on Sarfira. He’s got a lot to say, and he ain’t sugar-coating it! "Reimagining a classic into another language is always so difficult! But my dear @Sudha_Kongara does it effortlessly, making it authentic and rooted!” Dulquer, bhai, kitni tareef karoge? 😄
He goes on, showering praises on the ensemble cast. Akshay Kumar gets called “sincere,” Radhika Madan is “delightful,” and Seema Biswas, well, she makes your insides hurt when she’s hurting. Ouch, that’s some intense acting! And let’s not forget the fab Sir Paresh Rawal and the joy-inducing Sarathkumar.
And Dulquer ends on a high note with a shoutout to Suriya and Jyothika for bringing this story to a larger audience. “Big congrats to @Suriya_offl Anna and #Jyothika Maam for bringing this story to a wider audience. Love always to my bro @gvprakash for his boundless talent.” Wah, bhai, wah! 👏
About Sarfira
Now, let’s get to the nitty-gritty. Sarfira is inspired by the real-life events of Air Deccan Founder, Captain G R Gopinath. Akshay plays Vir Mhatre, a character that’s as dashing as it is daring. Radhika plays his wife, Rani Mhatre, and Seema Biswas is his mother. Ekdum family drama vibes, right?
Sudha Kongara had a heart-to-heart with PTI, revealing how Akshay was instantly intrigued by the story and brought his own twists to make the character fit the Hindi market. She said, “When I approached him (Akshay) with the script, he was immediately intrigued by the story and the character of Vir Jagannath Mhatre. He also had a lot of new ideas and inputs on how to make his character and Sarfira different from the original and more suited to the Hindi market which has made the film richer.”
Sudha also opened up about the double whammy of directing the same film in two languages. “Directing the same film in two languages is both a joy and a challenge. The joy comes from being able to present the story to diverse audiences and witnessing how different cultural nuances can bring new dimensions to the narrative.”
