Just when you think you’ve heard it all, another kahani surfaces to remind you that in B-town, reality is often stranger than fiction. So, let’s dive into this juicy tidbit about our very own Sonali Bendre and the legendary Saroj Khan, aka Masterji.
Picture this: The year is 1996, and Sonali Bendre, fresh from her big debut, is all set to dazzle the screen with her performance in "English Babu Desi Mem." But here’s the twist, dost! Our lovely Sonali, with her charming smile, had two left feet when it came to dancing. And who was at the helm, trying to shape her into a dance diva? None other than Saroj Khan, the queen of choreography herself, known for turning Bollywood stars into dancing sensations—albeit sometimes with a danda in hand! 😅
In an interview, Sonali hilariously recounted how Masterji was all set to "kill" her—not literally, of course—because her bar dancer moves were making Saroj ji pull her hair out. "I was playing a bar dancer, but I couldn’t dance," Sonali said. "Imagine what Saroj ji was going through!"
But, kudos to Sonali for not giving up! She had Ahmed Khan, then Saroj ji’s assistant, playing the role of a sweet-talking motivator. He bribed her with chocolates and ice cream, picking her up from Lokhandwala for endless rehearsals. "Just one more step, Sonali, and here’s a chocolate," he would coax, turning her dance lessons into a sugar-laden affair. 🍫🍦
And that’s how, with a little patience and a lot of mithai, Sonali managed not to get "killed"! Unfortunately, we lost the legendary Saroj Khan on July 3, 2020, but her legacy continues to dance its way into our hearts. Meanwhile, Sonali was last seen in "The Broken News Season 2," aired in 2024, proving she’s still got the josh!
