Five 90’s Bollywood Horror Flicks That Still Send Shivers Down Your Spine

Ah, the 90s. When Bollywood wasn’t just about melodrama or item numbers but also gave us some spine-tingling horror flicks that could send chills down our spines! Film Land Newshound Nisha here, ready to take you on a haunted tour through the dark alleys of 90s Film Land horror cinema. 🎬👻

Junoon (1992)
Imagine Rahul Roy, but instead of crooning “Aashiqui” tunes, he’s transforming into a tiger every full moon! Yes, folks, that’s Junoon for you, directed by the ever-so-dramatic Mahesh Bhatt. Cursed by a tiger? Check. Becoming a tiger? Double check. The cast includes Pooja Bhatt and Avinash Wadhawan, but seriously, who can remember them when you have a tiger in the room?

Raat (1992)
Ah, Ram Gopal Varma, before his horror films became accidental comedies. Raat has the Sharma family moving into a house with more bad vibes than your ex’s Instagram feed. With Om Puri, Revathi, and Rohini Hattangadi getting their freak on, the daughter gets possessed, and no, it’s not because she couldn’t find WiFi. They do the most logical thing: call a priest. Spoiler: he doesn’t have WiFi either.

Bandh Darwaza (1990)
When a rich dude decides to lock a demon behind a door, what could possibly go wrong? Fast forward a few years, and his own daughter decides to play peek-a-boo with the demon. Directed by the Ramsay brothers, this one’s a classic. Moral of the story: If you trap a demon, don’t give your daughter the keys. Seriously.

Shaitani Ilaaka (1990)
An evil sorceress feeding new brides to a demon named Shaitan. Yep, you read that right. With Sripradha and Kanwaljit Singh leading the cast, this film dives deep into dark sorcery and demonic rituals. Perfect for a cozy night in, if your idea of cozy involves blood sacrifices.

Khooni Ilaaka: The Prohibited Area (1990)
A tantrik (evil wizard, for the uninitiated) who just won’t quit, even after being burned by the village Thakur. Now a ghost, he haunts the village, killing off a film unit one by one. Because why not? Khooni Ilaaka is your typical haunted village trope, but hey, those were simpler times.

These films didn’t just scare the bejeezus out of us; they set the stage for what horror in Film Land could be—a mix of supernatural madness and pure, unadulterated drama. 🎥👿

Nisha’s Nutshell
Lesson for the day, my ghoulish friends: In Film Land, if you lock up a demon, don’t give the keys to your offspring. And if you see a tiger, just run the other way. Or you might just end up in a Mahesh Bhatt movie! 😂
