Alright, Bollywood buffs and movie maniacs, gather around! Itâs your girl, Bollywood Newshound Nisha, here to spill the beans, sprinkle some sass, and serve up the latest dish from the dazzling world of Hindi cinema. Buckle up, because this oneâs a rollercoaster! đŹâ¨
Did Shah Rukh Khan Really Pass Up Nayak for Just One Rupee?
Delhi: Grab your popcorn, folks, because hereâs a juicy tidbit that might just blow your minds. The King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, was actually the first choice for the 2001 cult-classic Nayak. Yup, you read that right! Our beloved SRK was initially onboard, but eventually, the role went to the evergreen Anil Kapoor. Now, why on Earth would SRK step down? đ¤
One Rupee, Seriously?
Our Jawan star took a grand signing amount of⌠drum roll, please⌠ONE rupee from Nayakâs director, S. Shankar. Yep, you heard me right. One single rupee! Talk about royal humility. This iconic film is a Hindi remake of Shankarâs 1999 Tamil hit Mudhalvan. While Nayak didnât set the box office on fire initially, it became a beloved gem once it hit the TV screens.
So, What Went Down?
In a resurfaced interview with Rediff, SRK spilled the tea on why he didnât go through with the film. According to our Bollywood Badshah, "Did he (Shankar) also tell you that I signed for him and took a signing amount? You know how much? One rupee. I took one rupee from him. And told him I would give him dates in bulk whenever he wanted them."
North-South Divide?
SRK, being the thoughtful genius he is, had some reservations about the filmâs concept working in North India. He confessed, "But I was not comfortable about doing the Hindi version. I told Shankar that in Tamil, that whole chief minister for a day thing worked brilliantly, but I did not think it was such a big issue in North India. I didnât think the concept would work as it is. So, on that project, we had some issuesânothing major, just that we didnât think alike on a few things, so it did not make sense to do it."
Still on the Cards?
SRK hasnât completely written off working with Shankar. "But I still have that signing amount; he still has my promise of dates. He is one guy I most definitely want to work with. For me, he is like James Cameronâyou know, he makes out-and-out entertainers on a gigantic scale, and that kind of thing can be a huge high."
Whatâs Next?
Rumor has it that Nayak 2 is in the pipeline. Produced by Siddharth and Mamta Anand under Marflix Pictures, it promises to be another grand political saga with Milan Luthria at the helm. The plot is said to organically lead to a sequel with a strong vigilante angle.
On the work front, SRK was last seen in Rajkumar Hiraniâs Dunki, which graced theatres in December last year. And letâs be real, who isnât excited about anything SRK touches? đ
Nishaâs Nutshell: In the wacky world of Bollywood, a rupee can be worth its weight in gold, and one manâs pass can become another manâs treasure. Moral of the story? Always keep a rupee handy; it might just land you a blockbuster someday! đââď¸đ¸
Stay tuned, stay sassy, and keep those drama meters cranked up to max! Until next time, this is Bollywood Newshound Nisha signing off. đžđ
