Picture this: the early days of Bhansali and Hirani, when they were but humble assistants to Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The big boss handed them a task—cutting the trailer for 1942: A Love Story. But alas, what unfolded was nothing short of a filmy drama! 🎬
During a recent chit-chat at Kellogg School of Management, Vidhu spilled the beans on a not-so-pretty rendezvous with these budding filmmakers. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, back in his assistant days, was tasked with cutting the trailer. But our man Vidhu thought the initial cut was as thanda as yesterday’s chai. So, Bhansali, in a desperate bid to salvage his izzat, roped in a skinny chap for help. Enter Rajkumar Hirani! 😅
But the twist in the kahani? Vidhu promptly showered Hirani with some colorful Hindi gaalis. Yes, our now-celebrated director, Hirani, once faced the choicest words from Vidhu! Talk about a baptism by fire, haan? Vidhu reminisced, "I gave the boy some really bad gaalis. That boy was Rajkumar Hirani."
Fast forward to today, Vidhu can’t help but beam with pride seeing how far his once-terrified assistants have come. Bhansali, once too nervous to collect an award on Vidhu’s behalf, is now the maestro behind epic blockbusters. And Hirani, well, he’s woven magic onto the screen time and again.
