Ooh la la! Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated film ‘Ramayana’ is creating quite the buzz, especially with the casting of our very own chocolate boy Ranbir Kapoor and the southern sensation Sai Pallavi. But hold on to your popcorn, because not everyone is thrilled about this casting coup. 🎬🍿
Remember Dipika Chikjlia, our OG Sita from Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’? Well, she ain’t too happy about people messing with the classic. And guess who’s joining the chorus of discontent? None other than Sunil Lahri, our beloved Laxman! In an interview with Hindustan Times, he voiced his, um, not-so-subtle opinion about Ranbir Kapoor playing Ram.
Cue the drama 🎭 Sunil Lahri thinks calling Ranbir "Ram" is a big no-no for the audience. "From the poster, I liked his look. It’s very nice, and since he’s so smart, he will look perfect in that role. But I don’t know how many people will accept him as Ram," said Lahri. Oh, snap! 😲
The veteran actor believes that a fresh face would have been a better choice. He acknowledged Ranbir’s acting chops and illustrious lineage but pointed out the tricky task of altering public perception. After all, Ranbir’s recent role in ‘Animal’ isn’t exactly helping the cause. I mean, can you picture a fierce animal morphing into the serene Lord Ram? Yeah, me neither. 😬
And then there’s Sai Pallavi. Sunil, bless his heart, hasn’t seen any of her work but feels her look doesn’t scream "Sita" to him. He expects Sita to have a flawless, ethereal beauty that makes even Raavan go weak in the knees. Will Sai pull off the divine allure? We’ll have to wait and see, folks! 🤔
But wait, there’s more! Sunil also cringed at the thought of Arun Govil, the original Ram, playing Dashrath in Tiwari’s adaptation. According to Sunil, "He is diminishing his own personality. If such an offer were presented to me, I wouldn’t have accepted it." Ouch! Talk about tough love! 💔
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is juggling more than just divine roles. He’s also set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love and War’ alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Busy bee, isn’t he? 🐝
