Saif Ali Khan, often referred to as Bollywood royalty, has always been the epitome of grace and charm. Betaji of cricket legend Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and the iconic Sharmila Tagore, Saif’s filmi career has been anything but smooth. In a throwback interview, Saifu baba opened up about how his ‘Western’ upbringing initially became a speed bump on his Bollywood highway.

In a 2013 chit-chat with Rediff, Saif spilled the beans on how his ‘Angrez’ image was more of a bane than a boon. Saif confessed, "Early in my career, my ‘angrez’ image was a major roadblock. We all have our comfort zones and mine was deeply Western due to my upbringing. But, now the desi in me has taken over. I may sound pompous, but I was brought up like an Eastern prince. Not trying to be arrogant here, just stating facts. I’m an Indian educated abroad. Recently, I started praying more, and it’s quite calming. My manager even got me a silk janamaz (prayer mat).

Contrary to popular belief, Saif denies any preference for foreign locales over his beloved India. The Jawaani Jaaneman actor clarified, "No, I don’t spend more time in London. I love India and especially Mumbai – it has character and charm that no other city can match. Sure, the infrastructure sucks and the summer weather is unbearable, but Mumbai is home. Outside India, things are cleaner, more organized, and I enjoy the anonymity. But trust me, I’m not a confused desi (laughs)."

Now, we all know Saif loves his exotic vacations with biwi Kareena Kapoor Khan and their munchkins, Taimur and Jehangir. But let’s not forget, he’s also got some heavy-duty filmi commitments coming up! Saif is all set to star in the Telugu film Devara, opposite Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor, playing the main baddie. Arey wah, Saifu, South mein bhi dhoom machaane waale ho! 💥
