Kantaben’s Magic: Sulbha Arya Reflects on Her Iconic Role in ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’

Lights, camera, action, dosto! Today, we’re diving into the magical world of Bollywood where Khabree Kiran is ready to spill the chai on the unforgettable Kantaben from "Kal Ho Naa Ho." Yes, the same Kantaben who made us all chuckle with her scandalized expressions! So, let’s jump into the filmy gossip and see what our very own Sulbha Arya has to say about her iconic role.

Picture this: it’s 2003, and the silver screen is graced by the magical trio of Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Saif Ali Khan, all thanks to Nikkhil Advani and Karan Johar’s magic wand. Amidst all this star power, Sulbha Arya, with her flawless portrayal as Kantaben, managed to steal a piece of our hearts. But guess what, Sulbha ji herself remains clueless about how she became such a hit! Arrey, kuch cheezein bas hit ho jaati hain! 😂

Sulbha Arya shared, "I was just there, shaking in every scene! It was Karan’s baby, and Nikkhil came to me saying, ‘Aunty, yeh role aapko hi karna hai.’ At the time, I was more of a teacher than an actor, so the shoot was wrapped up in two-three days flat!"

You know, Sulbha ji is not new to the world of cinema. With a career spanning Marathi and Hindi films, TV, and theatre, she’s seen it all. Her chemistry with Saif and Shah Rukh seemed effortless, partly because she’s got industry ties through her family. Who needs acting classes when you’ve got theatre in your blood, hai na? 🎭

Currently, she’s starring in "2050 Care with Love," a short film available on YouTube. Directed by Lakshmi Iyer, this 20-minute film delves into the relationship between an elder and her caretaker. And guess who else is in the movie? Jamie Lever, the talented offspring of our beloved comedian Johny Lever! What a small world, right?

Sulbha Arya is thrilled to see the tides turning in Bollywood, with more nuanced roles being written for women across different ages. "People are finally realizing the depth of women’s lives. Maybe it’s because folks like us are speaking up more," she quips. Well, better late than never, Bollywood!

As for her experience working with Jamie Lever, Sulbha ji was pleasantly surprised. "I didn’t even know she was Johny’s daughter! It felt like working with family," she added with a warm smile.

Kiran’s Gyan:
*Bollywood ka asli drama toh off-screen hota hai! Sometimes, the simplest roles leave the biggest impact, and even the actors are left scratching their heads, wondering, ‘Yeh kya ho gaya?’ So, dear Bollywood, keep surprising us with your kahaniyan and unforgettable characters. After all, life is toh full-on filmi, boss! 🎬
