Yep, Bebo was dating the film’s lead actor, Saif Ali Khan, and she didn’t shy away from expressing her disappointment over losing out on the role. She even brought it up at an awards function! Imtiaz Ali, the maestro himself, was not too thrilled about Kareena’s public display of displeasure. Now, when Deepika Padukone was asked about Kareena’s desire to be a part of Love Aaj Kal in a chat with Hindi Movie News, she brushed it off with a diplomatic flair. “I have no idea about that. Saif and I never discussed it. I never brought it up. But I do know one thing: Imtiaz always wanted to work with me on this special film, and that’s what happened,” she said, with an elegance only Deepika can pull off. Smooth, right? 😉

Deepika, ever the queen of grace, pointed out that it’s unrealistic to expect your real-life boyfriend to be your co-star in every film. She remarked, “I don’t expect my boyfriend to be in every film with me. It’s a bit silly. As an actor, I need to work with different people. A director knows what kind of characters are needed and which actors can bring them to life. Expecting my boyfriend to be my co-star in every film is childish.”

Saif Ali Khan, the Nawab of Pataudi, supported the idea of casting Kareena but also respected Imtiaz’s decision. In an interview with Zoom, he said, “When your personal and professional lives intertwine, it’s hard to see things clearly. Of course, I miss her and wish she was in the film, but you have to stay true to your director’s vision. This was the casting he wanted, and we respected that.” Fast forward to today, Saif and Kareena are happily married with two adorable sons, Taimur and Jeh.
