Hey there, Bollywood aficionados! It’s your favorite gossip monger, Bollywood Newshound Nisha, digging up the juiciest, spiciest tidbits from Tinseltown. Buckle up, because today, we’re diving into the world of Japanese gaming and how it’s about to make a big splash in our beloved Bollywood!
Prime Video has decided to play with fire, folks, and by fire, I mean dragons! Their latest offering is a Japanese Original series titled ‘Like a Dragon: Yakuza’, set to steam up our screens from October 25th. This isn’t just any show, my dear readers. It’s a live-action adaptation of SEGA’s mega-hit game franchise, ‘Yakuza: Like a Dragon’. The man behind the camera? None other than the critically acclaimed director, Masaharu Take. And who’s the hunky lead, you ask? It’s the swoon-worthy Ryoma Takeuchi playing the role of the legendary Kazuma Kiryu.
Talk about a fiery start, am I right?
The original ‘Yakuza’ game series, launched by SEGA in 2005, was advertised as an adult’s playground, and boy, did it find its playmates! The game series, set in the fictional district Kamurochō (a not-so-subtle nod to the violent Shinjuku ward’s Kabukichō), explores the lives of ferocious yet passionate gangsters. It’s all about the drama, the passion, and of course, the underworld of modern Japan.
But now, Prime Video is taking this gaming giant and carving out a unique, original story that will be streamed worldwide. The show follows our protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, a fearsome Yakuza warrior known for his strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity. It’s a riveting journey across two time periods, 1995 and 2005, tracing the life, friendships, and consequences of our main man’s decisions.
Our lead actor Ryoma Takeuchi has expressed his excitement (and dare I say, intimidation?) at stepping into the shoes of the beloved character. But, from what we’ve heard, both Takeuchi and director Masaharu Take have poured their hearts and souls into the series.
James Farrell, head honcho of International Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, can’t contain his excitement either. He’s confident that the series will charm audiences worldwide, thanks to its ‘deep resonance and layered characters’.
Masayoshi Yokoyama, the head of RYUGAGOTOKU Studio and Executive Producer, is equally enthusiastic. He believes that the show will be a ‘landmark release’ for the ‘Like a Dragon’ series. And hey, who are we to argue?
In other news, we also have BTS’ Jung Kook announcing his new single ‘Never Let Go’ set to release on June 7, ahead of the group’s 11th anniversary. But that’s a story for another day, folks.
And now, for the moral of the story – whether it’s the streets of Mumbai or the fictional district of Kamurochō, drama and passion are universal. So, let’s cozy up with some popcorn and see how this dragon flies!
Remember, Bollywood Newshound Nisha is always on the prowl for the latest scoop. Stay tuned for more gup-shup from the glitzy, glamorous world of Bollywood!
