Rafi Sahab’s Premonition: Ek Roohani Kissa

Mohd Rafi, the voice that could melt hearts and move mountains, left us on July 31, 1980. Kya koi soch sakta tha ki woh itni jaldi chhod ke chale jaayenge? The maestro was recording songs till his very last day. Imagine! 🎤

The Day Before Rafi’s Departure

So, picture this: Rafi Sahab is in the studio, belting out tunes like there’s no tomorrow. Little did he know, kal sach mein nahi aayega! On July 30, 1980, he recorded two significant songs. Ek din pehle wala gaana tha for Naushad’s film titled "Habba Khatoon." The lyrics? ‘Jis Raat Ke Khwaab Aaye, Wo Raat Aayi.’ Deep, right? 😢

After the recording, Rafi hugged Naushad and, get this, started crying! He said, “Naushad Sahab, aaj ek muddat baad accha geet gaya. Aaj bahut sukoon mila. Ab jee chahta hai ki is bhari poori duniya ko chhodkar chala jaaun.” Ye kya ho raha hai, bhai? Aisa kaunsa sukoon mil gaya Rafi Sahab ko?

July 30, 1980 – The Day Rafi Wanted to Leave the World

Rafi’s words sent chills down Naushad’s spine. Naushad couldn’t believe it when Rafi passed away the next day. And guess what? Rafi didn’t even take his paycheck for the song! Bade log, badi baatein.

The Last Melody

On July 31, 1980, just hours before his demise, Rafi recorded his final song, ‘Shaam Phir Kyun Udas Hai Dost.’ After that, he went home but felt uneasy. Hospital le jaane ka time bhi nahi mila, and he succumbed to a massive cardiac arrest at 10.25 pm.

Naushad once shared that Rafi passed away on the last day of Ramzan. Uss din Mumbai mein itni zor se baarish hui that even Goddess Saraswati seemed to be shedding tears. 😢

Rafi Sahab’s voice still echoes in our hearts, and his songs continue to be our life’s soundtrack.
