Mrs.: Sanya Malhotra reveals she knows folks who’ve faced struggles just like her Zee5 character; ‘some are having their emotional buttons pushed…’

Gather ’round, Bollywood buffs! Our very own Sanya Malhotra is back in the spotlight, bringing her new film, "Mrs.", to Indian audiences after a global festival tour. This cinematic gem explores the tumultuous journey of a woman married to a high-flyer, as she battles societal expectations to find her voice. Spoiler alert: it’s making waves and ruffling feathers!

So, what’s the buzz all about? Sanya, who snagged the ‘Best Actress’ award at the 2024 New York Indian Film Festival for her role in this Aarti Kadav drama, shares that her character’s story is hitting home for many—some are triggered, others emotional, but all are intrigued. “It’s like looking in a mirror for some,” she laughs, brushing off the drama with her usual grace.

Sanya, channeling her character Arati, dives deep into personal experiences, drawing inspiration from real-life stories. “I know a few people, including a close buddy, who’ve lived through similar sagas,” she confides, with a wink and a nudge.

For those not in the know, "Mrs." is a Hindi take on the 2021 Malayalam film "The Great Indian Kitchen." Sanya admits she was already a fan before the project landed in her lap, which helped her connect more deeply with her role. “We wanted to spice it up for the north Indian palate,” she quips.

Though she missed the chance to chat with Nimisha Sajayan, the original star from the Malayalam version, Sanya insists the tale remains universal. This film follows the life of a dancer-turned-housewife who, despite societal shackles, dares to dance to her own beat.

Mark your calendars, folks! "Mrs." will make its grand debut on ZEE5 on February 7, 2025. Joining Sanya are talented co-stars Nishant Dahiya, Siya Mahajan, and Kanwaljit Singh, promising a performance ensemble worth the popcorn.
