Hello, my fellow Bollywood buffs! It’s your favorite snoop, Bollywood Newshound Nisha, here to dish out today’s spicy scoop on Bollywood’s never-ending drama. Grab your popcorn, because this one’s a doozy!
Ah, Karan Johar, the man who can turn a coffee date into a national headline! Recently, our dear KJo decided to spill the beans on why Bollywood is in a bit of a pickle right now. Picture this: Karan, in a candid chat with Faye D’Souza, looking dapper as always, and dropping truth bombs like it’s Diwali. 🎇
First off, he says, "The audience has become very picky. They want a certain kind of cinema. If you want your film to do well, it needs to hit A, B, and C centres. Multiplexes alone won’t save you." Well, Karan, tell us something we don’t know! 😏 Of course, audiences are picky—they’re paying for it!
And then he dives into the economics of it all. Apparently, the cost of filmmaking has skyrocketed. Inflation, my friends, isn’t just ruining our grocery budgets; it’s messing with Bollywood too! "There are about 10 viable actors in Hindi cinema, and they want the sun, moon, and earth," KJo lamented. Oh, the drama! Imagine paying these stars Rs 35 crore only for their movies to open to a measly Rs 3.5 crore. Mathematicians, take note—this is some next-level calculus!
During this juicy tête-à-tête, Karan also mentioned something we’ve all noticed: Bollywood is running around like headless chickens. One minute it’s all about action-packed films like Jawan and Pathaan, and the next, everyone’s jumping on the love story bandwagon. "Conviction has taken a complete beating, and it’s all about herd mentality," he said. It’s like Bollywood has suddenly become that annoying friend who copies everything you do. 🙄
According to KJo, the audience now craves rooted Indian cinema. They don’t want to be alienated by urban lingo that leaves Tier 2 cities scratching their heads. "You can make urban cinema, but at a certain price," he wisely added. So, basically, make it relatable or risk flopping harder than a fish out of water.
Oh, and in case you missed it, Karan Johar’s latest production Kill, directed by Nikhil Bhat and starring Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, and Tanya Maniktala, is currently in cinemas. Will it kill at the box office? Only time will tell, my dears.
Nisha’s Nutshell:
Bollywood, stop chasing trends and start creating them! Conviction and relatability are the new black. And for heaven’s sake, someone give Karan Johar a calculator! 💸
