Kalki 2898 AD: The Mahabharata Mashup
So, Kalki 2898 AD is creating quite the dhamaal at the box office. Despite the mixed reviews, the filmâs financial performance is anything but ordinary. Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Amitabh Bachchan have brought in a whopping 280 crore worldwide and 149 crore in India. Thatâs no chhota mota number!
The film draws its inspiration from the Mahabharata and Vishnu Puran. Imagine this: Ashwatthama, the lone warrior from the Kurukshetra battle, is cursed by Lord Krishna after he offs Arjunâs son. Waiting for the tenth avatar of Vishnu, Ashwatthamaâs story takes a futuristic twist in Kalki 2898 AD. Talk about epic meets sci-fi! đ
Kalki x Mahabharata: A Bollywood Remix
Bollywood loves a good Mahabharata twist, hai na? Remember Rajneeti or Hum Paanch? Those were basically modern-day Mahabharata tales. But letâs rewind to 1965, when AA Nadiadwala produced Mahabharat, directed by Babubhai Mistry. Starring Pradeep Kumar as Arjuna, Dara Singh as Bhima, and Padmini as Draupadi, this film was a grand affair. Jeevanâs Shakuni was so scheming, it would make your saas-bahu serials look tame!
Mahabharata: Budget & Box Office Blunder
This 1965 Mahabharata had a massive budget for those timesâ25 crore. But, alas, it was a box office disaster, earning just 1 crore. Imagine spending a fortune and getting peanuts in return! Later, it was demoted to low-quality cassettes and VCDs. Kya zamana tha!
Fast forward to today, Kalki 2898 AD doesnât seem to be heading down that same disastrous road. With a humongous budget of 600-700 crore, the film needs to pull in at least 500 crore to break even. As of now, itâs already achieved 22% of its budget. Not too shabby, huh? If this pace continues, Kalki may just set a new benchmark for mythological adaptations. Maybe this is the Mahabharata we needed all along, and Kalkiâs success could inspire filmmakers to dive into more mytho-universes. đȘ
Kiranâs Gyan: In Bollywood, itâs not just about kaun banega crorepati, but kaun banayega crore ka paisa! With Kalki 2898 ADâs ambitious budget and its strong start, it seems like the film industry is ready to gamble big on mythological epics. Bas, letâs hope they donât end up like the 1965 Mahabharataâburning a hole in their pockets! đž
