Hey there, Bollywood buffs! It’s your favorite gossip guru, Bollywood Newshound Nisha, back with some vintage juice from the tinsel town. Grab your popcorn, because today’s dish is a spicy blend of legendary egos, missed opportunities, and cinematic magic.
Let’s rewind to a time when the late and undeniably great Rajkumar was the lion of the silver screen, with his majestic presence both on and off it. The man had a knack for picking his projects; you didn’t just "cast" Rajkumar, you aligned the stars for him. 🌟 But oh, how those stars could misalign for others, especially with Rajkumar’s formidable persona scaring off potential co-actors faster than you can say "Action!"
Case in point: the 1993 blockbuster Tiranga—yes, the one with Rajkumar and Nana Patekar sharing screen space and chewing scenery like their lives depended on it. But did you know that Nana wasn’t the first choice for the role? Oh, the drama!
Rajkumar and Rajinikanth: The Pair That Never Was
Film producer Mehul Kumar, in a tell-all chat on Friday Talkies’ YouTube channel, spilled the beans. The film required two heroes, with Rajkumar already locked in as Brigadier Surajdev Singh. But guess who was the initial pick for Inspector Shivajirao Waghle? None other than Thalaiva himself, Rajinikanth. 🕶️ Mehul and his team even went to Madras with the script, only to have Rajinikanth politely but firmly refuse. "I can’t work with Rajkumar," he said. Ouch!
Nana Wasn’t Even Second Choice!
After Rajinikanth’s bow out, the team approached Naseeruddin Shah. But he, too, wasn’t up for sharing the screen with Rajkumar. 🤷♂️ Enter Nana Patekar. Initially, Nana wanted nothing to do with commercial cinema. But the director, using his silver tongue, convinced him. However, Nana had one condition: if Rajkumar interfered on set, he would walk.
When informed about this, Rajkumar responded with his usual flair, "Mehul! I’ve heard he’s quite the hothead, causing ruckus on set." 🌪️ The director assured him, and peace, albeit a fragile one, was maintained.
The Unexpected Bond
Interestingly, it was during the shooting of the song "Peele Peele O More Jaani" that Rajkumar and Nana developed a camaraderie. And voila! Six months later, Tiranga hit the screens and became a roaring success.
Rajinikanth’s Regret
As if this tale needed more masala, Rajinikanth attended a special premiere of Tiranga and loved it! He even regretted not being part of it. The cherry on top? Finding out that Nana’s character name, Shivajirao, was initially meant for him! Talk about a twist of fate. 😲
Nisha’s Nutshell
Moral of the Story: In Bollywood, even the mightiest stars have their moments of doubt and regret. But hey, that’s what keeps this glittery circus entertaining! 🌟
