Robert De Niro Tried to Cut Anupam Kher From Silver Linings Playbook, But the Outcome Was a Bollywood Plot Twist!

Arre bhaiyya, Bollywood and its kahaniyaan never fail to surprise! Today, we’re diving into the world of Anupam Kher, who’s not just a phenomenal actor but also a man of great self-respect. You know, the kind who can stand his ground even in front of Hollywood’s bada log like Robert De Niro! Kya baat hai, Anupam ji! 👏

Anupam Kher, a name synonymous with versatility, has carved a niche for himself not only in Bollywood but also in the global film market. Starring in flicks like Bend it Like Beckham and Hotel Mumbai, his moment of glory came with the Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook. Filmmaking ka asli magic happens behind the scenes, and here’s one such untold kahani from the movie sets that proves Kher is no less than a hero off-screen too!

Anupam Kher’s Showdown with the Legend, Robert De Niro

Picture this: You’re on the set of a Hollywood film, surrounded by names like Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. Kher’s son, Sikandar Kher, shared on the Qisse with Kopal podcast that during rehearsals, De Niro questioned the necessity of Kher’s character in a scene. Arre, De Niro baba had his doubts, thinking his character wouldn’t allow Kher’s character into the house. Most would have quietly said, "Theek hai, sir!" But not our Anupam!

Sikandar said, “He thought, let me just give them a piece of my mind,” and that’s exactly what he did! In front of the entire star filled set, Kher explained to director David O. Russell why his role was crucial. Everyone listened as Kher spoke with a dhinchak mix of confidence and respect. As if in a filmi climax, Russell turned to De Niro, who simply nodded and said, “Okay.” Bas, ho gaya!

In that moment, Anupam Kher, a proud Indian, earned not just his place in the scene but also the respect of Hollywood royalty. Sikandar aptly put it, “My father is a nobody there, he’s from India. He could’ve lost that part. But he went there and just did it, and held on to his self-respect.”

Kiran’s Gyan:

Bollywood teaches us that sometimes, facing your De Niro moments with courage can make you the real hero. So, when life throws you a scene to fight for, do it Kher style and say, "Main kar sakta hoon!" 🎬
