Triptii Dimri’s ‘Bad Newz’: A Boyfriend’s Review and a Wife’s Shout-Out
Alright, folks, gather ’round! Have you ever had a boyfriend who’s your biggest cheerleader? Well, Triptii Dimri’s rumored beau, Sam Merchant, is setting some serious #BoyfriendGoals. The guy’s all over his Instagram, singing praises for Triptii’s latest flick, Bad Newz. And guess what? He even posted a video from inside a theater! Talk about dedication. In his Instagram Stories, he shared a clip from the film’s song Tauba Tauba featuring the ever-charming Vicky Kaushal shaking a leg. Sam’s caption? "Great performance. Thoroughly entertaining. Ufff." And of course, he had to throw in a red heart emoji. Classic. 🥰
But wait, the Vicky Kaushal fan club doesn’t end there. His real-life better half, Katrina Kaif, gave him a shout-out too. In an interview with Film Companion, Vicky mentioned that Katrina’s approval felt like winning an Oscar. Aww, isn’t that cute? He said, "That approval is like an Oscar. She is just too good at what she does."
Our beloved critic Saibal Chatterjee, however, wasn’t as smitten. He gave Bad Newz a mere 2 out of 5 stars. Ouch. According to him, the film is "more frizzle than sizzle." Directed by Anand Tiwari and scripted by Ishita Moitra and Tarun Dudeja, the movie revolves around a rather bizarre plot involving a pair of dads and a mom who ends up with twins from two separate pregnancies in the same ovulation cycle. Yep, you read that right. Saibal says the movie has no real surprises and is pretty much a still-born comedy. Harsh but fair?
Vicky Kaushal plays Akhil Chadha, a guy running a chaap shop in Karol Bagh, Delhi. Akhil is a persistent dude who bulldozes his way into Saloni’s life, all the while flaunting his "no mobile" phobia. He’s not exactly Prince Charming, but the film tries hard to make us warm up to his quirky ways, mostly thanks to the over-the-top affection from his doting mother, played by Sheeba Chaddha.
And let’s not forget, Bad Newz also has Neha Dhupia in a crucial role.
So, what’s the moral of today’s Bollywood fairy tale? Well, it’s simple: In Bollywood, if your boyfriend isn’t posting Insta stories from your movie’s first day first show, is he even your boyfriend? And remember, no matter how bizarre the plot, there’s always a chaap shop in Karol Bagh to spice things up.
