It seems like the re-release of Tumbbad is shaking up the box office like a pro! This folk horror flick, which initially couldn’t quite make its budget back, is now raking in the moolah. Sohum Shah ki magnum opus finally getting its due? Arre, yeh toh hona hi tha! Saturday’s collections saw a massive uptick, and here’s the lowdown on all the early trends.
Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, Tumbbad was made on a modest budget of 15 crores. The film initially hit theaters in 2018, receiving rave reviews but failing to attract a significant audience. Over the years, it has gained cult status and is now regarded as one of the finest Indian horror films. The re-release has fans buzzing, particularly those who missed the chance to catch it on the big screen the first time around.
On Saturday, the re-release managed to earn between 2.30-2.45 crores at the Indian box office. This marks a staggering growth of 39-48% compared to its opening day collections of 1.65 crores. After just two days, the overall collections now stand somewhere between 3.95-4.1 crores. Kya baat hai!
During its original run, the Sohum Shah-directed movie had accumulated 1.80 crores in its first two days, opening at 0.65 lakhs and then earning 1.15 crores on the second day. The re-release, however, has minted almost 119-127% higher box office collections. With word-of-mouth spreading like wildfire, Sunday looks even more promising. Mazaa aa gaya!
Hold your horses, folks! The makers dropped a bombshell during the end credits by announcing Tumbbad 2. Fans are losing their collective minds, and quite frankly, so am I! Can’t wait to see what spine-chilling adventures await us next.
In the film, Sohum Shah plays Vinayak Rao, a man on a quest to find a 20th-century treasure in the village of Tumbbad. Produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah, this film is a must-watch for all you horror aficionados out there.
