Picture this: the maestro Shekhar Kapur is fuming and for good reason! Apparently, the streaming overlords have taken his masterpiece "Bandit Queen" and given it a makeover so drastic that it’s like swapping out masala for bland oatmeal. 🎥😱 Kapur, who’s given us gems like "Masoom" and "Mr India", is not taking it lightly. He’s out here wondering if they’d dare pull the same stunt with a Christopher Nolan flick. I mean, seriously? Poore Bollywood ko kya samjha hai, bhai? 🤔
Kapur vented his frustration on social media, saying, "The Bandit Queen on #AmazonPrime is unrecognizable from my film. Someone has cut it beyond recognition." Arre, koi toh batao inko, ki director ka naam lagana hai toh unki permission bhi leni chahiye, nahi toh sab ganda hai par dhanda hai ye! Is it fair play to mess with someone’s art without their nod? I think not! 🎬
And the drama doesn’t stop there! Fellow filmmaker Sudhir Mishra jumped into the conversation, lamenting that Indian storytellers aren’t given the same freedom as their Western counterparts. Mishra’s like, "Independent film banani padegi bhai, jahan creativity ki koi bandish na ho." 🎭
Even Kunal Kohli, of "Hum Tum" fame, had something to say. He pointed out that Kapur’s Hollywood success might give him more leeway today, but back in the day, the filmmakers were treated like they were asking for a free biryani. 🍛
Now, don’t get me wrong, I get it. Streamers are all about making things more "watchable", but yaar, kuch toh izzat rakho asli director ki! The kahani of Phoolan Devi, played by the fierce Seema Biswas, deserves the integrity it was crafted with.
