Shekhar Suman Retorts to Pakistan’s Unsavoury Remarks on ‘Heeramandi’: Green-Eyed Monsters, Are We?

Greetings, fellow Bollywood enthusiasts! This is Bollywood Newshound Nisha, your favourite sarcastic, funny and cynical Bollywood snoop, back with more juicy gossip from the glittering world of Hindi cinema. As always, I promise to not just report the news but give you my own humorous spin on it. So, get ready for a roller coaster ride through the latest happenings in B-town, served with a side of wit and sarcasm.

So, what’s buzzing today? Well, it appears that our very own Shekhar Suman, fresh from basking in the glory of the latest web series, ‘Heeramandi’, has managed to ruffle a few feathers across our border with Pakistan. Now, you must be wondering, what’s led to this international brouhaha? Apparently, some folks from Pakistan aren’t too pleased with what they perceive as historical inaccuracies in the series.

When quizzed about this criticism, Shekhar, in his typical nonchalant style, shot back, “Looks like our neighbours can’t stomach our success, eh? They’re asking, ‘Why did they make it?’ Well, dear friends, why didn’t you make it first? And why are you even discussing our ‘Heeramandi’? We don’t discuss your films. In fact, we don’t even know whether you make films!” Ouch! That’s a burn if ever there was one!

Shekhar didn’t stop there. He jumped to the defence of the series’ creator, the one and only, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB). He pointed out that many individuals were overly concerned about ‘Heeramandi’, discussing and questioning its historical accuracy, authenticity, and chronology. According to him, Bhansali is renowned for his dystopian sagas and creating his own cinematic universes.

In Shekhar’s opinion, cinema, as an art form, shouldn’t be subjected to excessive questioning and interpretations, as they represent the filmmaker’s perspective. He added that Bhansali hadn’t intended to create a documentary on ‘Heeramandi’. Instead, it was merely an inspiration to craft his narrative.

Well, what can I say? When it comes to Bollywood, there’s never a dull moment. And now, for the much-awaited Moral of the Story, folks: Never underestimate the power of a good Bollywood saga to stir up international controversy. And for those who criticise, remember, in the world of cinema, it’s not about presenting a history lesson, it’s about presenting a compelling story.

That’s all for today. Stay tuned for more spicy Bollywood news and don’t forget to take life with a pinch of salt… and a dash of masala!
