Bollywood’s very own chupa rustam, Manjot Singh, the comedic gem from Fukrey and Dream Girl, decided to share his thoughts on being typecast in comic roles. Sit tight, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride! 😏
Manjot Singh Joins the "Enough of the Ha-Ha" Club!
So, apna Manjot Singh, who was last seen rocking the screen in Wild Wild Punjab as an alpha male (yes, you read that right, alpha!), has finally opened up about his struggle with being typecast in funny roles. You know, like the cute sardaar who’s always the butt of the joke? Well, Manjot’s had enough of that! He says, “Yaari, it’s all about positioning. Aapko kuch karke dikhaana padega, tab hi logon ke dimaag mai perception badalta hai.” Translation? You gotta prove yourself, only then will people’s minds change. And oh boy, is he right!
"Sikh Actors Are Not Just for Comedy, Yaar!"
Manjot is tired of the same old scriptwriting that goes, "Ek actor aur ek sardaar actor hai." Like, what is that even? He’s all about breaking that stereotype. “Especially sardaar ka character hoga, toh hi bulaayenge, this hurts me,” he adds. Manjot, you’re not alone in this.

Diljit Dosanjh: The Torchbearer!
Manjot gives a shoutout to Diljit Dosanjh, calling him a shining example of breaking the stereotype. “Meri itne saalon se makers se fight thi ki kuch serious karva do,” he reveals. And look at him now, playing an alpha male and looking all dashing while at it. Manjot is clearly on a mission to show that Sikhs can do serious roles too, just like Diljit bhai!
Mama’s Boy with a Mission!
And here’s a cute tidbit – when Manjot entered Bollywood, his mom had some golden words for him: “Beta, apni Sikhi ka mazaak mat uddvaio fame ya paison ke liye, apni izzat apne haath mai hai.” Respect, Manjot! He’s done comedy, sure, but he’s never made a mockery of himself or his faith for a few laughs.
Bursting the Bubble!
For Manjot, breaking the stereotype was essential. “I always used to play the ‘Dara hua, sehma hua’ funny guy,” he shares. But now, with his new serious role, he feels like he’s finally getting the recognition he’s always wanted. “It feels like after 15 years I am able to hear what I always wanted to hear,” he says, clearly over the moon.
Kiran’s Gyan 💡
Zindagi mein kabhi kabhi aapko woh karna padta hai jo aapko lagta hai ki aap nahi kar sakte! Bolly-land bhi ek aisa hi jungle hai, jahan jeetne ke liye apna rang badalna padta hai. Manjot Singh, tu toh sher nikla! 🦁
