Sohum Shah’s ‘Tumbbad’ Makes a Grand Comeback with a ‘Blockbuster’ Re-release | Bollywood

Alright Bollywood buffs, buckle up! Khabree Kiran here, ready to spill the chai on the latest buzz from tinsel town. Trust me, this one’s a doozy!

Sohum Shah’s "Tumbbad" has risen from the ashes like a phoenix, smashing the box office on its re-release. Yes, you read that right! This atmospheric horror drama, which initially released on October 12, 2018, has returned to theaters and bagged a whopping ₹1.65 crore on its first day. Compare that to its original opening of ₹65 lakh, and you’ll see why everyone’s talking. 🤑

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and produced by Shah’s own banner, Sohum Shah Films, "Tumbbad" was already a critical darling back in the day. But now, it’s back with a vengeance, tripling its original opening day earnings. Talk about a comeback! 😎

The film’s team is over the moon, proudly stating that "Tumbbad" has outdone re-releases of iconic films like "Sholay," "Mughal-e-Azam," and "Rockstar." Wah bhai wah! Shah himself couldn’t contain his excitement, saying, "Tumbbad has been a special journey and a labor of love for us. To see the love it continues to receive is overwhelming."

Set in a quaint Maharashtra village, "Tumbbad" dives into the dark world of Vinayak Rao, who is on a relentless quest for a mythical treasure guarded by the malevolent entity Hastar. It’s a tale of greed, obsession, and a treasure hunt that makes Indiana Jones look like child’s play.

Even cinema exhibitors are in awe. Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR INOX Pictures Limited, gushed about the film’s performance, predicting a "very long run" at the box office. "It’s a blockbuster in the re-release category," he said. "The producers did a fantastic job of positioning and timing the re-release well."

Akshay Rathi, a theater owner in central India, chimed in, calling the response "very encouraging." He mentioned that "Tumbbad" didn’t get its due when it first released but has since found a loyal audience through TV and streaming platforms. “To be able to experience it in theaters, they all are coming in encouraging numbers,” he added. 🤩

And here’s the cherry on top: Sohum Shah has announced a sequel! Fans have been clamoring for "Tumbbad 2," and Shah promises it will delve even deeper into the theme of greed. “With ‘Tumbbad 2’, we want to push the cinematic experience and boundaries even further,” he said. “It will take audiences deeper into the world we’ve created, with bigger twists and a more intense exploration of what happens when greed knows no limits.”

Kiran’s Gyan: In Bollywood, if at first you don’t succeed, try a re-release! Who knows, you might just triple your money and get a sequel out of it. 😉
