Taapsee Pannu reveals she didn’t pocket much from Dunki, thanks to sharing the screen with a larger-than-life hero like Shah Rukh Khan!

Gather ’round, Bollywood buffs, because your favorite snoop, Bollywood Newshound Nisha, is here to spill the beans with a sprinkle of sass and a dash of sarcasm. Grab your popcorn; this one’s piping hot! 🎬🍿

Ah, Taapsee Pannu! The talented powerhouse who burst onto the Hindi film scene with Chashme Baddoor back in 2013. Fast forward to 2023, and she’s been gracing our screens with her latest flick, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. But wait, dear readers, it’s not all glitz and glamour in Tinseltown. Taapsee has a bone to pick about her paycheck—or the lack thereof—when it comes to big commercial films like Dunki with the king himself, Shah Rukh Khan.

In a candid chat with Hindi Movie News, Taapsee spilled the chai on the misconception that commercial films bring home the bacon. Spoiler alert: they don’t! In fact, our girl Taapsee gets a heftier paycheck when she’s the star of female-driven films rather than playing second fiddle in hero-centric blockbusters like Judwaa 2 and Dunki. Apparently, the big shots behind these movies think they’re doing her a "favor." Can you believe it? 🙄

"They seem to think, ‘Oh, there’s already a big hero, why would we need anyone else?’" Taapsee quipped. Oh, Taapsee, we feel you! Fighting these outdated notions is an everyday battle for her.

And the plot thickens! Taapsee shared her struggles in landing roles in those coveted big-budget films. It seems like the male leads have a say in who gets cast as their leading lady—unless, of course, there’s a director with a golden touch at the helm. Taapsee dreams of picking her directors, but alas, it’s not always in the cards for her. After all, those successful filmmakers are often drawn to projects with a "big hero and a big budget."

Dunki, directed by the acclaimed Rajkumar Hirani, saw Taapsee romantically paired with SRK. And let’s not forget the cherry on top: Vicky Kaushal’s special appearance. Meanwhile, Judwaa 2—a 2017 reboot of the 1997 classic—had Taapsee sharing the screen with Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez, courtesy of David Dhawan.

But let’s not underestimate our lady Taapsee! She’s been a force in films like Baby, Naam Shabana, Mulk, Pink, Manmarziyaan, Badla, Saand Ki Aankh, and Mission Mangal. 🙌

Nisha’s Nutshell: In the grand circus of Bollywood, the moral of the story is
who needs a big paycheck when you have a big hero, right? 😜 Keep fighting the good fight, Taapsee! One day, perhaps, the industry will wake up to the fact that talent deserves its own spotlight—no hero required!
