Oh, Mumbai! The city where dreams are made and sometimes crushed!
Bollywood’s very own multi-talented maestro, Karan Johar, who recently gave us the hit "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani," is in a nostalgic mood. Why, you ask? Because it’s the 18th anniversary of his cinematic gamble "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" (KANK) — a film that dared to tread where few Bollywood films had gone before.
To mark this milestone, KJo took to Instagram, sharing a video packed with behind-the-scenes snippets. The nostalgia is real, folks! The video transports us straight back to the mid-2000s, complete with its questionable fashion choices. Ah, the era of low-rise jeans and chunky highlights! 🙈
In this time capsule of a video, you’ll spot Bollywood royalty: Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, and Arjun Rampal. According to KJo, creating KANK was a labor of love, made possible by his tight-knit group of friends and family. Aww, isn’t that sweet? 🥰
Karan poured his heart out in the caption, writing, "KANK was the road that I need not have taken but it was the best decision I made to take it…till date! This film not only gave me the best of the times with my absolutely phenomenal cast that honestly, were more my family – but it also gave me the courage to tell stories that I put my conviction into about relationships that were messy but beautiful…just like life? Here’s to 18 years of #KabhiAlvidaNaaKehna."
Let’s not forget, KANK was KJo’s passion project, his first directorial venture after the passing of his father, Yash Johar. Upon its release, however, the film tanked at the box office. The themes of infidelity and broken marriages were just too hot to handle for the Indian audience back then. Yet, in true Bollywood fashion, the movie has aged like fine wine. The performances were stellar, and the music? Timeless! The songs are still trending on Instagram, even after 18 years. Talk about staying power! 🎶
Nisha’s Nutshell:
In Bollywood, you win some, you lose some, but the real magic is in taking risks and breaking taboos. KJo did it with KANK, and whether the box office agreed or not, we’re still humming the tunes. So, dear Bollywood aspirants, take heart! Sometimes the road less traveled is the one that leads to timeless classics. 🌟
