Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad is getting a second life in the theatres, and guess what? It’s finally getting the love it deserved! The film first released in 2018, and while critics loved it, the box office, meh, not so much. But abhi, with its re-release, it’s dhoom macha rahi hai. The twist in the kahani? Director Rahi Anil Barve has just announced he’s stepping away from the much-awaited sequel. Haye re, Bollywood ka drama kabhi khatam nahi hota! 🎬
So, Rahi Anil Barve ne apna X account pe ek dhamakedaar statement daal diya. Listen to this: “For decades, I have worked on this insane trilogy with many producers changing in between. First was the greed of patriarchy (Tumbbad). My personal and much darker version of father, son and the holy ghost. The second deals with the dawn of feminism and holier than holy satipratha — Pahadpangira. Third, the end of this trilogy will be Pakshitirtha. That’s all I have to say for now. I wish Sohum and Aadesh all the best for Tumbbad II. I have no doubts it will be an outstanding success. Following the completion of Gulkanda Tales and Raktabhramand by the end of this year, I plan to start production on Pahadpangira in March 2025.”
Some fans are all “Rahi, we love you! Best of luck!” while others are like, “Kya yaar, why leave Tumbbad?” And of course, ab rumors are flying high about some jagda between Rahi and Sohum. Bollywood mein without some masala, kuch bhi poora nahi hota!
But let’s talk numbers, because Bollywood loves numbers! On its 8th day, the re-released Tumbbad has made a cool 29.96 crore in India. Yeh horror-fantasy flick is officially a hit, mounted at a budget of just 15 crore. ROI dekho, a whopping 99.73% returns! Matlab, paisa vasool!
Remember the plot? Vinayak (Sohum Shah) is all about chasing wealth and power, but there’s a deadly curse of Hastar hanging over him. With co-stars Anita Date Kelkar, Mohammad Samad, Jyoti Malshe, and more, the film is a nail-biting thrill ride.
