Attention, my Bollywood-loving buddies! Here’s your spicy daily dose of Bollywood bites from yours truly, Bollywood Newshound Nisha. Grab your popcorn 🍿 and let’s dive into the latest filmy drama.
New Delhi: John Abraham and Sharvari’s latest flick, Vedaa, burst into theaters on Independence Day with a bang, raking in Rs 6.3 crore. But oh dear, it seems the fireworks fizzled out pretty quickly. By Saturday, the film’s earnings plummeted to a mere Rs 2.40 crore, totalling a lukewarm Rs 10.50 crore. Ouch! 😬
Why the lackluster performance, you ask? Well, Vedaa is caught in a fierce tug-of-war with Stree 2 starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein. And guess what? Stree 2 is not just winning the battle; it’s obliterating the competition, smashing past the Rs 100 crore mark in just two days! Meanwhile, Akki’s Khel Khel Mein is playing it safe with Rs 6.95 crore over its first couple of days.
Poor John! Despite his chiseled abs and intense stares, Vedaa is far from his biggest hit. Remember Satyameva Jayate from 2018? That baby roared into theaters with Rs 19.5 crore on day one. Even Ek Villain Returns managed to scrape together Rs 7.05 crore on its debut, leaving Vedaa in its dust.
Directed by Nikkhil Advani, who gave us the tear-jerker Kal Ho Naa Ho, Vedaa doesn’t seem to have the same emotional punch. Critics are giving it the classic mixed review treatment. Saibal Chatterjee had a few choice words in his review, calling it a diluted mess despite its heavy themes of caste oppression and inter-caste couple killings in rural India. Basically, it’s trying to be a poignant social commentary but ends up being just another action film.
Nisha’s Nutshell:
Bollywood’s lesson of the day, kiddos: You can have the brawn and the big bucks, but without a gripping story, you’re just another pretty face in the crowd. And remember, as always in Bollywood, the show must go on (preferably with better scripts)!
Stay tuned for more filmy gossip, my lovelies. Until next time, keep watching, keep dreaming, and keep the drama alive!
