Alright doston, get your chai and pakoras ready because Khabree Kiran is back with some juicy Bollywood gossip! This time, we’re diving into the lavish, drama-filled life of none other than Karan Johar, Mr. Bling-Bling himself! Let’s get started, shall we? 🌟
So, Karan Johar, our very own Badshah of Bling, is known for flaunting brands like Balenciaga, Gucci, and Versace. But guess what? Even this fashion-forward mogul has had his fair share of financial drama. Yup, you heard it right! KJo recently spilled some beans about the tough times his family faced when his dad, Yash Johar, had to deal with back-to-back flops from Dharma Productions. 😱
Back in the day, Yash Johar founded Dharma Productions in 1979, and they hit a jackpot with the 1980 blockbuster Dostana, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, and Zeenat Aman. But then, it was like a bad spell or something – because films like Duniya (1984), Muqaddar Ka Faisla (1987), and even the cult classic Agneepath (1990) bombed at the box office. Talk about bad luck, yaar!
After Yash Johar’s death in 2004, Karan took over the reins of Dharma Productions. Recently, in a chat with Faye D’Souza, KJo got all emotional and nostalgic, recounting how his family had to sell properties and jewelry to stay afloat. He revealed, "Right after Dostana, Papa saw a series of about five failures. He had a small export division, which he wanted me to take over eventually. During those days, we used to get movies financed. Financers would give us money and we would pay them back with interest. When one of the films failed, my mum (Hiroo Johar) sold my nani’s flat, and when another faced the same fate, she sold some of her jewelry. My father had to sell a little property he had in Delhi. These are the stories I have heard."
KJo also clarified that his family wasn’t rolling in dough. They were upper-middle-class, living in a posh area, but not exactly ‘richie rich’. Yet, Yash Johar made sure Karan was treated like royalty, giving him the best education and life.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Karan claims that it was his directorial ventures that finally brought in the moolah for Dharma Productions. And today, this guy works 16-20 hours a day without any guilt about his high-end shopping sprees. He finds retail therapy quite, well, therapeutic. 😜
"Why should I apologize for the wealth I earned through hard work?” KJo concluded. Well, haters, you heard the man!
Kiran’s Gyan:
Zindagi mein upar neeche toh hote rehte hain, doston! Whether it’s a flop film or a designer flop, life goes on. And remember, a little retail therapy never hurt anyone – bas credit card ka bill dekh ke heart attack mat lena!
