Oh Bollywood, tumhe kya ho gaya hai? đ Just when you think youâve seen it all, Bollywood throws another curveball. And trust me, this oneâs a doosra! So, hang tight while I spill the beans on the Oscars race and the bizarre contenders. Yes, even Chhota Bheem made the cut! đ
So, Kiran Raoâs Laapataa Ladies got the nod as Indiaâs official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards. Wah bhai wah! The hullabaloo around this decision has barely settled, and the list of other contenders has left everyone scratching their heads. Bhai, kya soch rahe the yeh log? From the iconic Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan to biggies like Animal and Kalki 2898 AD, the Oscars race this year is a true Bollywood masala mix!
The Film Federation of India (FFI) has been given the thankless job of selecting our Oscar entry. And trust me, they donât make it easy on themselves. This year, apart from Laapataa Ladies, there were 28 other films vying for the spot. Among them were some critically acclaimed gems like All We Imagine As Light and Aattam. But, what stole the limelight were the oddballs like Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan. I can almost hear the taaliyan and seetiyan! đ„ł
Okay, hereâs the real kicker! How did Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan even make it to the list? Well, apparently, the FFI allows any film released during the qualifying period to enter, provided the filmmakers cough up over âč1 lakh. Paise do aur entry lo! And voila, Chhota Bheem was in the race! Of course, social media had a field day. One tweet hilariously summarized it: "The audacity to send Chhota Bheem for the Oscar selections. Damn need this confidence in life." đ
Besides the animated superhero, other films that raised eyebrows included Kalki 2898 AD, Animal, Kill, and Good Luck. Itâs like Bollywood decided to throw everything into the mixâmashup ka zamana hai, bhai!
Amidst this medley, letâs not forget the film that actually made it. Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies features newcomers Sparsh Srivastava, Pratibha Ranta, and Nitanshi Goel, alongside veteran actors Ravi Kishen and Chhaya Kadam. The film, about two lost brides in 90s India, may have bombed at the box office, but it won hearts with its critical acclaim.
Kiranâs Gyan: Bollywood mein kuch bhi ho sakta hai! From animated heroes to critically acclaimed art films, our industry is nothing if not unpredictable. So, the next time you feel life is getting monotonous, just remember: if Chhota Bheem can make it to the Oscars list, toh aap kuch bhi kar sakte ho!
Stay tuned, filmy folks. Khabree Kiran will be back with more Bollywood tamasha!
