Where Did Pilot and Captain Devi Sharan Disappear To?

Arre bhai, kya scene hai! Netflix just dropped a bombshell with their latest limited series, "IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack." Directed by none other than Anubhav Sinha, the show has everyone glued to their screens, biting their nails. But hold on, the real hero of this story—Captain Devi Sharan—has quite the tale to tell too!

So, Netflix gave us this heart-pounding series based on the true events of the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814. The drama unfolded on December 24, 1999, and lasted a grueling eight days. Five armed hijackers took control of the plane with fifteen crew members and 176 passengers on board. Vijay Varma’s portrayal of Captain Devi Sharan is so on point, it’s like he’s channeling the man himself. But the burning question remains: What happened to the real Captain after the hijack?

Captain Sharan, the asli hero hailing from New Delhi, had nerves of steel. His quick thinking saved the day when he flew low over Lahore to force air traffic control to let him land, averting what could have been a catastrophic crash. Post-hijack, the man penned down his harrowing experience in a book titled "Flight Into Fear," published by Penguin Books Ltd in 2000. It’s not your typical masala flick; Sharan kept it real, focusing on the gravity of the tragedy sans any sensationalism.

The book also reveals how Sharan missed out on some much-needed family time. Picture this: he was supposed to go on vacation right after that ill-fated flight. Instead, he lived through an eight-day nightmare, making critical decisions that saved lives. He’s like the Bollywood hero we didn’t know we needed.

The trauma, though, stayed with him. In an interview with The Telegraph, he admitted that his biggest regret was the tragic murder of one of his passengers. And get this, he was back in the cockpit just four months after the incident. Now that’s resilience! Sharan has been flying for 40 years, showing that real heroes don’t wear capes; they wear pilot uniforms.

After the hijack ordeal, Sharan went back to his family but stayed connected with some passengers. Imagine the WhatsApp groups they must have!

Kiran’s Gyan: Arre Bollywood, listen up! Real-life heroes like Captain Devi Sharan don’t need a script to be legendary. They live it. Maybe it’s time to take some notes, huh? 🎬✈️
