Ahoy, Bollywood buffs! It’s your ever-snooping, always-cynical Khabree Kiran here, bringing you the juiciest tidbits from tinsel town. If gossip were gold, I’d be richer than all those filmi folks combined! Today, let’s dive into the enigma that is Pankaj Kapur and his one-time stint as a director.
Wah, Pankaj Ji!
So, our very own Pankaj Kapur, the man who can make even a grocery list sound like Shakespeare, is riding high on his latest success with the show IC 814: The Kandahar Attack. But hey, remember his directorial debut Mausam? Yeah, that 2011 flick starring his beta Shahid Kapoor and the ever-gorgeous Sonam Kapoor. Mixed reviews? More like mixed feelings, because it bombed harder than my last attempt at a diet! 😜
In a recent heart-to-heart with Hindi Movie News, Pankaj Ji spilled the beans on why he hasn’t directed another film since Mausam. And trust me, it’s juicier than a mango in May!
Pankaj Kapur Spills the Chai
During the chat, he confessed, "Mausam is the only film I wrote and directed. Having said that, I do have scripts, but I cannot go from door-to-door selling them. I do not have that temperament. My temperament is more of an actor."
Hmm, so basically, Pankaj Ji is like those rare pokemons—hard to catch and even harder to convince! 😆 He further elaborated, "I mean, I don’t mind if somebody comes to me and says do you have a script? Can I hear something? I’m ready to narrate it and if the person says yes, I like what you have written, I am ready to go ahead and direct the film. It’s not that I don’t like directing. I love directing, but I cannot struggle to make a film. So, after Mausam, I decided to be more of an actor, and when an opportunity arises, I will direct."
Bhai, baat toh sahi hai! Why struggle when you can chill and wait for the universe to come knocking on your door? 🛋️
What’s Next for Pankaj Kapur?
For those who can’t get enough of this powerhouse performer, you’re in for a treat! Pankaj Kapur was last seen in Anubhav Sinha’s Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. This show is like a rollercoaster, dramatising the infamous 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC 814. It’s got a star filled cast including Vijay Varma, Patralekhaa, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, and many more. Talk about a full house! 🎬
And wait, there’s more! Pankaj Ji is all set to grace the silver screen again in Binny and Family, a film that dives deep into bridging generation gaps and strengthening family bonds. Written and directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy, this flick hits theatres on September 20. Guess who’s making her debut in this film? Varun Dhawan’s niece, Anjini Dhawan! Alongside her, we’ve got Rajesh Kumar adding his charm to the mix.
Kiran’s Gyan: Bollywood’s Directing Dilemmas
So, what did we learn from Pankaj Kapur’s saga? Well, in Bollywood, it’s not just about having a killer script; it’s about having the patience of a saint and the persistence of a telemarketer. 😅 Koi baat nahi, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that Pankaj Ji finds the perfect script and the perfect producer, and gives us another gem to cherish.
Until next time, keep your popcorn ready and your ears to the ground! Khabree Kiran signing off! ✌️
