So, Saifu, our prince charming of Bollywood and the son of evergreen diva Sharmila Tagore and cricket legend Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, has a confession to make. This hunky actor, who’s bagged a National Film Award and a Padma Shri, once decided to boycott Hindi films. And the reason? Well, it’s linked to none other than his maa, Sharmila Tagore! Can you believe it? 😲
Let’s rewind a bit, doston!
Sharmila Tagore, the lady with the iconic beauty and talent, has ruled Hindi and Bengali cinema with her stellar performances. With two National Film Awards and a Padma Bhushan under her belt, she’s literally Bollywood royalty. But Saif, our charming Nawab, has had quite a filmi journey himself, from crime thrillers to action-packed roles. He even owns two production houses, Illuminati Films and Black Knight Films. Oh, and did I mention he’s married to Bebo, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and has two adorable sons with her? Let’s not forget his earlier marriage to Amrita Singh, with whom he shares the talented Sara Ali Khan and son Ibrahim Ali Khan.
Now, here’s the juicy bit!
Saif made his acting debut with the film Parampara in 1993. Fast forward to over a decade ago, Saifu baba revealed a shocking truth—he had stopped watching Hindi movies. Yes, you heard it right! According to a report, Saif wasn’t a fan of the rona-dhona (crying) and melodrama of Hindi cinema. And the culprit? His maa Sharmila Tagore! In his own words, “I don’t watch Hindi films! I don’t know why. During my childhood days, I remember watching Doordarshan and Nirupama Roy crying on screen. That time I decided to watch (Hindi) comedy films.” 😂
And it doesn’t end there! Our Nawab tried watching his mom’s films, but alas, the tears followed him there too. “Then I saw my mother’s (Sharmila Tagore) film…even she was crying, and I didn’t want to see her crying, so I stopped watching it,” Saif confessed. Talk about maa ka pyaar, haan!
He further added, “When I started working in films, after shooting in them, I wanted to see something different. So I don’t watch Hindi films. I respect cinema, but I don’t watch Hindi films because I want to escape from my work after I finish working.”
On the professional front, Saif was last seen playing Lankesh in Adipurush. But oh boy, was it a disaster! The film was brutally slammed and tanked at the box office. No worries, though, as our Nawab has Jr NTR’s Devara lined up next. Fingers crossed, Saifu!
