Oh, darling readers! Hold onto your popcorn because Hollywood Hrishita is about to spill the beans in her inimitable style!
Guess whoâs back to haunt the box office? Yep, itâs Beetlejuice! Or should I say, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!" đŹđ»
The sequel to Tim Burtonâs 1988 horror-comedy classic is set to smash its way into theaters, and itâs eyeing an opening weekend haul of $100 million to $110 million. Talk about a ghostly grand entrance! Warner Bros, on the other hand, is being a bit of a Debbie Downer with their more conservative estimate of $80 million. But hey, anything above that would be a ghoulishly good start considering the filmâs $100 million price tag. đž
Everyoneâs banking on a cocktail of nostalgia and word-of-mouth to summon those ticket sales. Tim Burton, the mastermind himself, is back in the directorâs chair. Heâs got Michael Keaton reprising his role as the pesky poltergeist, Winona Ryder returning as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine OâHara as the ever-fabulous Delia Deetz. Joining this spooky squad are Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe. Now, if that cast doesnât make you want to say "Beetlejuice" three times, I donât know what will.
Critics, being their usual nitpicky selves, have mixed feelings. One even dared to say it doesnât quite match the monster-kitsch flair of the original. But, who cares, right? As long as itâs a fun ride, weâre all in! đ
The sequel picks up 36 years later. Lydia Deetzâs daughter stumbles upon the portal to the Afterlife andâsurprise, surpriseâaccidentally unleashes our favorite bio-exorcist spirit. Typical teenage shenanigans, right? đ
Box Office Royalty Awaits!
Whether or not audiences chant its name, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" is set to dominate. Itâll dethrone Disneyâs Marvel sequel "Deadpool & Wolverine," which has been hogging the No. 1 spot for weeks. Oh, and by the way, "Deadpool & Wolverine" has raked in a staggering $603 million domestically and $1.26 million globally. Talk about rolling in dough! đ€
Despite these mega hits, the summer box office ended on a low note with domestic revenues down by 14.3% from 2023. But fear not, my lovelies! "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" is here to jolt us into the fall season.
Upcoming delights include Paramountâs animated "Transformers One" (Sept. 20), Universalâs "The Wild Robot" (Sept. 27), Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gagaâs "Joker: Folie Ă Deux" (Oct. 4), Sonyâs "Venom: The Last Dance" (Oct. 25), and Paramountâs horror spin-off "Smile 2" (Oct. 18).
Moral of the Story:
Even in Hollywood, sometimes all you need is a ghost from the past to scare up some cash! đ»đž
