Bollywood’s 2024 Mid-Year Box Office Blues: Hindi Films Limp In With Just 1307 Crores, A Whopping 42% Shortfall From 2023’s Boom

Hello doston! Guess who’s back with the latest Bollywood gossip? It’s your very own Khabree Kiran, here to spill the beans and sprinkle some masala! Ready for a rollercoaster ride through the Bollywood box office drama of 2024? Buckle up!

Box Office 2024: Half-Yearly Report!

Yeh dekho doston, the Hindi box office of 2024 is like that endless soap opera you can’t stop watching, but this time, it’s more like a tragicomedy. In the first half of the year, our Bollywood films managed to rake in a total of ₹1307 crore. Sounds impressive? Well, hold your applause. Compared to last year’s ₹1846 crore, this year is lagging behind by a whopping 42%! Lagta hai Bollywood ne apna magic thoda lose kar diya hai!

The Hits and Misses

Out of the 29 releases (including a few Hollywood and dubbed South Indian films), only 3 were hits, 1 turned out to be a superhit, and 1 blockbuster. Wah wah! Munjya, the horror-comedy, scared its way to the top with more than ₹100 crore, while South Indian film HanuMan was the superhit surprise. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Shaitaan, and Article 370 were unexpected hits. Kaun keh raha tha yeh movies hit nahi hongi? 🤷‍♀️

March Madness

March was the king of the box office with a hefty collection of ₹470.50 crore. Two films, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Shaitaan, each crossed the ₹100 crore mark. Add Kareena, Kriti, and Tabu’s Crew to the mix, and you’ve got a recipe for box office success. Kya baat hai!

The Flop Parade

Ab aayega asli maza! In the first six months, we had 10 flops. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan, both big Eid releases, tanked spectacularly. Even Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter, though the highest-grossing film with ₹215 crore, couldn’t meet expectations. Kya yaar, Hrithik?

2024 vs. 2023: The Battle

Despite a better mix of hits and flops this year, 2024’s total earnings of ₹1307 crore pale in comparison to 2023’s ₹1846 crore. Last year, Shah Rukh Khan alone contributed ₹543 crore. Boss, SRK ko missing kar rahe ho kya?

  • January: ₹192.23 crore | ₹554.02 crore
  • February: ₹125 crore | ₹49 crore
  • March: ₹470.50 crore | ₹358 crore
