‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Opening Weekend Predictions—A Superhero’s Wallet Workout

Lights, camera, action! A new saga unfolds in the world of superhero capes and bear-sized marmalade jars. Welcome, dear readers, to Hrishita’s Hollywood Happenings, where the tales of cinematic triumphs and tribulations are served with a side of sarcasm and a dash of wit! 🎬🍿

Ah, Sam Wilson, our new Captain America, has taken up the shield to save the day… or at least the box office. “Captain America: Brave New World” swoops into theaters, hoping to defrost those chilly cinema seats with an $80 million to $85 million weekend target. If you’re counting on your fingers, that’s $90 million to $95 million by President’s Day. And for those wondering if the movie will be playing in your neighbor’s backyard, it’s in about 4,100 theaters across North America. Talk about a wide reach! 🛡️🇺🇸

But hold onto your popcorn, the international scene is buzzing too! Captain America is expected to bag another $110 million overseas. However, it’s a showdown in China with the mighty “Ne Zha 2” and the oh-so-British “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.” Quite the eclectic cinematic buffet!

With no domestic rivals in sight, our dear Cap is all set to claim the biggest debut of the year. The numbers beat out 2021’s “Eternals” and “Shang Chi,” and even 2023’s “The Marvels” (which, let’s just say, didn’t exactly set the world on fire). But alas, it’s not quite the fireworks of “Thor: Love and Thunder” or “Doctor Strange.” Marvel, it seems, is playing a game of box office hopscotch, landing on some squares better than others. 🤷‍♀️

Meanwhile, the MCU’s recent adventures have been, well, a mixed bag. While “Deadpool & Wolverine” was a billion-dollar wonder, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels” were more like little blips on the radar. Superhero fatigue, anyone? Marvel’s hoping for a fresh start with “Thunderbolts” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Fingers crossed, folks! 🤞

In “Brave New World,” Sam Wilson is tossed into chaos after “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” With Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross now president, chaos is the name of the game. Directed by Julius Onah, this one’s going to be a ride!

And just as Cap is flying high, along comes a bear with a penchant for marmalade. Enter “Paddington in Peru,” the third installment of the tale about a bear, a hat, and a lot of marmalade. Aiming for a cute $15 million to $17 million over the holiday, Paddington hopes to charm North American audiences with his antics. 🐻🥪

Having already raked in $103 million internationally, Paddington’s adventures continue under the new direction of Dougal Wilson. The story takes our furry friend to Peru, to visit Aunt Lucy. The cast includes the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Antonio Banderas, and Olivia Colman. With glowing reviews, Paddington’s charm is as infectious as ever!

Moral of the Story: In Hollywood, superheroes may save the world, but sometimes it takes a bear with a suitcase to steal the show. 🦸‍♂️🐾
