Ah, Sunday! The day when everyone’s supposed to rest, including our beloved Hindi film, Devara: Part 1. But, alas, rest it did not—although its box office numbers decided to take a leisurely stroll rather than a sprint. With a modest Rs. 4.20 crores adding to its kitty, the film’s growth from Saturday to Sunday was as exciting as watching paint dry. But let’s not be too harsh; given the Thursday slump, no one expected a dramatic Bollywood-style comeback. It’s been inching forward since Friday, but hey, it’s the tortoise, not the hare, right?
Interestingly, our Hindi dubbed version has shown more resilience than its Telugu sibling. While the original version sprinted past the Rs. 100 crores mark like Usain Bolt, the Hindi counterpart is eyeing a more modest Rs. 70-72 crores finish. Not bad, considering it was almost invisible on the promotion radar. Honestly, a marketing plan for this was as absent as logic in a Bollywood melodrama. Yet, it’s on track to double its expected take, which is a win in my books.
So far, Devara has amassed Rs. 58.47 crores and is expected to reach around Rs. 63-64 crores by the end of week two. But brace yourselves, because Vettaiyan from Tamil land and Bollywood’s very own Jigra are about to invade theaters, threatening to steal the spotlight. Despite that, a Rs. 70 crores lifetime haul is still very much achievable.
In the end, dear reader, remember this: even slow and steady can win the race. Or at least, make a respectable showing. As we always say in Bollywood, "Picture abhi baaki hai, mere dost!"
