‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Lands Bronze in U.K. and Ireland Box Office Race

Alright, my cinephile friends, gather ’round! Hollywood Harish is here to dish out the latest from the world of glitz, glam, and box office shenanigans!

So, let’s dive right into the juicy bits, shall we? The Indian sci-fi extravaganza, “Kalki 2898 AD,” has made quite the splash across the pond, landing itself in third place at the U.K. and Ireland box office. With a budget that’s enough to make even the most lavish Bollywood producer blush ($72 million, folks!), this epic, distributed by Dreamz Entertainment, raked in a cool £886,366 (that’s $1.1 million for those counting in dollars).

Meanwhile, Disney’s “Inside Out 2” is still ruling the roost, adding another £6 million to its already eye-watering total of £31.9 million. Not to be overshadowed, Paramount’s “A Quiet Place: Day One” made a respectable debut in second place with £2.9 million.

Sony’s “Bad Boys: Ride Or Die” is still hanging in there, collecting £651,891 in its fourth weekend, bringing its total to a neat £10.2 million. Universal’s “The Bikeriders” rounds out the top five, with £588,675 in its second weekend, making its running total £2.3 million.

Newbies on the block? Disney’s “Kinds of Kindness” debuted in sixth place with £322,142. WHS’ Punjabi sequel “Jatt & Juliet 3” snagged the seventh spot with £283,400. Warner Bros.’ “Horizon: An American Saga Chapter One” didn’t quite set the screen on fire, underwhelming at £150,371 in eighth place. Oh, Kevin Costner, what went wrong?

And if you’re looking for weekend plans, brace yourselves for Universal’s “MaXXXine,” set in the neon-drenched 1980s Hollywood. Adult film star Maxine Minx is chasing her big break, but a mysterious killer has other plans. Cue dramatic music and ominous shadows! Picturehouse Entertainment is bringing us “Orlando, My Political Biography,” exploring transitions through Virginia Woolf’s lens. Signature Entertainment’s “Unicorns” promises some unexpected sparks between a queer South Asian performer and a straight mechanic. 😲

Vertigo’s “The Nature of Love” and Eclipse Pictures’ “The Sparrow” are also hitting the screens, along with Sony’s anime treat “Blue Lock The Movie – Episode Nagi.”

Bollywood isn’t far behind! Lionsgate’s action-packed “Kill” and Bakrania Media’s romantic flick “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha,” starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, are all set to dazzle.

For those feeling a bit nostalgic, re-releases include Park Circus’ “The Mummy” celebrating its 25th anniversary and Studiocanal’s 50th anniversary 4K release of Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Conversation.”

Moral of the Story: In the tangled web of Hollywood and Bollywood, the box office is as unpredictable as an Indian monsoon. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, along comes a surprise hit or a flop to remind you that, in showbiz, it’s all about the magic (and sometimes the mayhem)!

Stay tuned, my filmi friends, for more scoops, snark, and sass from your one and only Hollywood Harish!
