Robert Pattinson and Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Mickey 17’ Takes Over Korean Box Office, Because What Else Would You Expect?

Gather around, cinephiles! Hollywood Hrishita is here to spill the beans on this weekend’s box office drama in South Korea. Trust me, it’s juicier than a Bollywood love triangle! 🎬✨

Mickey 17: The Galactic Showstopper

Hold on to your popcorn, folks! The mighty "Mickey 17" has crash-landed into the South Korean box office, making a splash bigger than a K-pop concert. With a staggering $6.6 million debut, it’s not just leading the pack but has gobbled up a whopping 69.06% of the market share. Directed by the cinematic genius Bong Joon Ho and starring none other than the brooding heartthrob, Robert Pattinson, this sci-fi extravaganza has outshone everything, even our beloved "Captain America: Brave New World." 🦸‍♂️🌌

In a nutshell, this flick is about a ‘reprinted’ worker (yes, you read that right) on a far-off colony, tackling jobs that are as dangerous as my cooking! With 980,549 bums on seats over 2,153 screens, it’s safe to say Mickey’s having quite the party. 🎉 Warner Bros. is laughing all the way to the bank with a four-day total of $9 million, thanks to a Friday kickoff and a cheeky Monday holiday. And those Imax screenings? They chipped in a cool 9% to the weekend haul. Not too shabby, eh? 😉

Captain America: The Not-So-Brave Weekend

Dear Cap, what happened? "Captain America: Brave New World" stumbled into second place, with a rather shy $721,841, grabbing just 7.47% of the market share. Sam Wilson, our new Captain, might need to polish that shield a bit more. Despite the slump, it still managed to catch the eyes of 110,888 viewers, pushing its total earnings to $10.5 million. Keep at it, Cap! 💪🇺🇸

Horror and Heartstrings

Meanwhile, "Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning" kept its spooky charm alive in third, raking in $568,718, while the tear-jerker "It’s Okay!" made its debut with $186,691. Kudos to Lee Re for taking us on an emotional rollercoaster. 🎢

Paddington and the Gang

Our favorite bear, "Paddington in Peru," managed to charm audiences enough to round out the top five with $159,116. And let’s not forget the Korean remake "You Are the Apple of My Eye," which is still collecting hearts and dollars, sitting comfortably in sixth with $151,499. 🍎💕

The Underdogs and the Unexpected

In seventh, "Cheer Up, Korea!" waved its patriotic flag with $118,067, while Japan’s "1st Kiss" tiptoed into eighth with $85,423. The Bob Dylan biopic, "A Complete Unknown," snagged ninth with $106,367. And finally, "Lee Chan-won Concert Anthem: Dear My Chance" gave us a musical farewell in tenth place, earning $255,785. 🎤🎶

Moral of the Story:

In the wild world of cinema, much like in life, stars may rise and fall, but the true heroes are the ones who keep us entertained, one ticket at a time. So next time your favorite film takes a tumble, just remember, even superheroes have their off days! 😉🚀
