Appu Film Review: A Trunk-ful of Adventure and Conservation Messages in This Animated Jungle Journey

🌟🌟🌟 (Three out of five stars)

Well, butter my biscuits and call me Rani! I’ve just witnessed an elephant’s journey that somehow made me question if Dumbo had a long-lost Indian cousin. So, buckle up, folks, as Review Rani takes you on a wild ride through the jungle – Bollywood style! 🐘

Meet Appu, the pint-sized elephant protagonist of the movie, ‘Appu’. He’s not your typical big-eared hero, but a determined little calf on a mission to save his family, his species, and his dignity from the greedy clutches of mankind.

Oh, but it’s not just about the elephants! The movie attempts to play the environmental card faster than you can say ‘climate change’. The theme is as subtle as a sledgehammer, and the execution is as smooth as a rickety bullock cart ride. But hey, it’s Bollywood, baby! 🎬

‘Appu’, this animated extravaganza, is like a kaleidoscope of jungle clichés. Our plucky pachyderm is joined by a yappy dog named Tiger and a runaway tyke, Neena. Together they traipse through the jungle, engaging in shenanigans as predictable as a Bollywood dance number.

The villain of this fable, Don, is as clichéd as a Bollywood baddie can get – think Gabbar Singh with a poaching license. The film’s dialogue, unfortunately, resembles the script of a melodramatic daily soap opera. Yet, the voice cast triumphs, injecting life into their characters, and adding a dash of emotional depth to an otherwise shallow storyline.

The animation is as colourful as a bridal lehenga, but the storyline is as dull as dishwater. The film is visually pleasing, with an aesthetic that would make a pre-schooler’s eyes pop. However, the plot is about as gripping as a greased watermelon, leaving the adults in the audience questioning their life choices.

The background score is as innovative as a chapati, adding nothing to the film but a few extra minutes of run-time. And trust me, folks, you’ll feel every single one of those minutes.

Despite its predictable storyline and melodramatic dialogues, ‘Appu’ does manage to drum the #ElephantLivesMatter message into our heads, reminding us that we need to save these majestic creatures from the vanity of mankind.

So, if you have a soft corner for animated elephants and a high tolerance for clichés, ‘Appu’ might be worth your time. If not, well, I did warn you.

Rani’s Wrap-Up: ‘Appu’ is like a box of chocolates that you’ve left out in the sun – sweet, but a bit of a melted mess. 🍫🐘

Remember folks, this is Review Rani signing off. Until our next cinematic adventure, stay sassy, stay sarcastic, and always keep it real!
