Dil Dosti Aur Dogs Film Review: A ‘Ruff’ Watch Despite the Puppy Love

đŸ€ĄđŸ€ĄđŸ¶ (2 out of 5)

“When life gives you a dog movie, you expect a pawsome experience. But when it turns into a barkfest
you can’t help but howl in disappointment.”

Greetings, Bollywood buffs! It’s your favourite cynic, Review Rani, back with another no-holds-barred, hilarious take on the latest Hindi flick. The movie on my chopping block today is Viral Shah’s tail-wagging spectacle, Dil Dosti Aur Dogs.

Dil Dosti Aur Dogs is a movie that promises to be a heartwarming journey through four love stories, all witnessed and influenced by our furry friends. But alas, the film is as exciting as a dog chasing its tail. Yes, the idea of love stories narrated through the perspective of canines is novel, but this film’s execution is about as elegant as a dog scooting on the carpet.

The narrative, penned by Shah along with Nisarg Vaidya and Hardik Sangani, tries to capture the magic of dogs bringing joy and healing to human lives. It’s a great idea, like a bone for a dog, but the end product is as satisfying as a rubber chew toy. The dismal performances and half-baked relationships presented are so superficial that even the dogs in the film seem to be looking for an escape route.

Dil Dosti Aur Dogs is chock-full of clichĂ©s, and the characters’ struggles seem about as authentic as a cat in a dog suit. Kunaal Roy Kapur and Masumeh Makhija play a troubled couple dealing with marital issues, but their storyline is as shallow as a kiddie pool. Ehan Bhat, portraying Sunny, delivers a performance that makes you wish he’d stayed in the shade. His scenes with Tridha Choudhury are as electrifying as a dead battery.

The rest of the cast, including the usually dependable Sharad Kelkar and Neena Gupta, are given characters so undercooked, they could give salmonella a run for its money. The lack of character development and the weak script makes it harder to connect with the characters than trying to teach an old dog new tricks.

Running for a mercifully short 101 minutes, Dil Dosti Aur Dogs could’ve been a light-hearted rom-com celebrating the bond between humans and their pets. Instead, it’s about as entertaining as watching paint dry. The only worthwhile thing about the movie? The dogs, who despite everything, manage to wag their tails and steal the show.

Rani’s Wrap-Up: Watch Dil Dosti Aur Dogs only if you’re a die-hard canine lover. If not, you might end up feeling like you’ve been taken for a walk
in the worst possible way! đŸ™„đŸŸ
