Well, look at that, another Bollywood film trying to be a Hollywood action flick, this time with Sonu Sood in the director’s chair.😮 Hold onto your seats, folks, we’re in for a wild, and often ridiculous, ride.
Sonu Sood plays a simple Punjabi bloke named Fateh who, in classic Bollywood fashion, transforms from a humble everyman into a lethal vigilante overnight when a young girl falls prey to a nasty cybercrime syndicate. 💻🔫 The film attempts to delve into the world of cybercrime, which is apparently running rampant in India.
The film begins in the peaceful Punjab countryside before promptly plunging us into a whirlwind of violence and cyber sleuthing. However, the narrative is as thin as a sheet of paper, and the character development is virtually non-existent.👀 It’s all action and no substance, with a story that feels contrived and overblown. There’s no emotional meat to sink your teeth into, just a string of action sequences that attempt to emulate the likes of ‘John Wick’ and ‘Kill Bill.’
Sonu Sood, who makes his directorial debut, seems to have focused more on the action and less on developing any kind of emotional depth for his characters. Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz pop up here and there, with Raaz’s wry humor providing the only respite in an otherwise grim plot. Jacqueline Fernandez plays a so-called ‘ethical hacker’ named Khushi, and thankfully, the film doesn’t bother with any unnecessary romantic subplots.
The screenplay, penned by Sonu Sood and Ankur Pajni, takes us across various locales to emphasize the all-pervading menace of cybercrime. But the relentless pace of the story, combined with its frequent foray into the realm of the ridiculous, makes it hard to swallow. The background score, composed by John Stewart Eduri and Hans Zimmer, is as overbearing as the plot itself.
The film tries to highlight the dangers of our fast-paced digital lives, but its shock-and-awe approach to storytelling overshadows any real message it might have. ‘Fateh’ is a blood-soaked spectacle that’s heavy on action and light on substance.
Rani’s Wrap-Up: ‘Fateh’ is more of a ‘flop’ in my books. It’s a cinematic equivalent of a rollercoaster ride that’s all thrills and no heart. If you’re looking for a mind-numbing action flick, this might just be your cup of tea. Otherwise, I’d say save your time and money. There’s more depth in a kiddie pool than in this movie.😜
