🔔Ding! Ding! Get ready for a roller coaster ride in the year 2898 AD, where Lord Vishnu’s tenth avatar Kalki is about to make a grand entrance in a world that’s more dystopian than a post-apocalyptic novel. Welcome to the latest Bollywood blockbuster, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, where myth meets madness, and popcorn meets the floor!
Alright, hold on to your seats, folks, because we’re diving straight into the aftermath of the Mahabharata war. Here, immortality is the new black, thanks to Lord Krishna’s curse on Aswathama. Director Nag Ashwin uses this as a springboard to catapult us into a universe teeming with celestial beings and mortal men in elaborate costumes. And what’s the cherry on the cake? Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, among others, playing characters that are as convoluted as a bowl of spaghetti.
Now, Ashwin isn’t just directing this mega-mythological-techno-thriller. No, sir! He’s also the writer, and boy, does he have a story to tell. A dystopian city ruled by an evil Commander, a God King living in a mysterious powerhouse, fertile women being killed, men enslaved… it’s all there. And amidst all this chaos, we have our hero, Bhairava (Prabhas), and his band of rebels from Shambhala. Their mission? To rescue the bearer of the awaited avatar, SUM80 (Deepika Padukone). Sounds like a piece of cake, right? Well, not exactly.
The plot is as labyrinthine as a drunk spider’s web, with more characters and sub-plots than a ‘Game of Thrones’ fan convention. And just when you think you’ve got the hang of it, Ashwin throws in a few detours to confuse you even more. The comedy falls flatter than a pancake, and the love angle seems as half-baked as a doughnut in a child’s Easy Bake Oven.
On the bright side, the second half picks up pace, thanks to Amitabh Bachchan’s re-entry. The veteran superstar packs more energy than a Red Bull, and even manages to bring some realism to Ashwathama’s character. Deepika Padukone delicately balances power and subtlety in her portrayal of SUM80, while Prabhas seems stuck in a repetitive loop, slowing down the film’s pace like a flat tyre on a Ferrari.
Now, let’s not forget the visual effects. They are so stunning, it’s like watching a fireworks display on steroids. The music, however, is as disappointing as a deflated balloon, but the background score does a decent job of upping the drama quotient.
💫Rani’s Wrap-Up💫
If you’re a sucker for larger-than-life visual spectacles, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ might just be your cup of tea. It’s a concoction of myth, madness, and mayhem, served with a generous dollop of special effects. Though it requires the patience of a saint to sit through the convoluted storyline, the film’s audacious concept and vividly imagined universe make it worth a watch. So, buckle up, pop that popcorn, and get ready for a wild ride into the future!
